My GT4 is a track car that comes with track warranty. Guess what...it's 6 speed manual.

Although he explicitly states that this car is not a track car, however, it has all components of GT3 and RS which are track cars. Although language barrier is an issue here, I think he was trying to say that this car is not intended to be enjoyed as a track car. As mentioned above, it is fully capable as being a track car.

A good driver will probably close the gap between manual and PDK anyway...
+1. I'm not a good driver, so I just want the one I have more fun in

Exactly. This is just Porsche marketing to justify the place of the 911R. The language changes with each model introduction.

Exactly. Don't be mistaken, offering the GT 3 in a manual will simply sell more cars. It's not rocket science it is very well thought out.

As AP said, the R is a new style of GT cars -- one meant for the road. Ergo, a manual is fine for such an iteration of GT cars.
You may be right and on to something. It's interesting to see that car has been baptized just "R." Maybe not to confuse with the race ready GT R or just in homage to original R? Nonetheless one would wonder why PAG would do something that would diminish the very valuable GT brand. They in effect are doing so by bringing to market a quasi GT car w/or the GT moniker. Interesting.

The car has been " baptized " R because it's the successor of the original 911 R,that's it...I don't understand why it's so complicated...
Only today this car has been built by the " fancy " GT department at Porsche that didn't exist back in the day. Also, they couldn't make it to weigh 2400 LBS or whatever the original weighed...different times, different regulations, different customers. Still,by today's standards,a high revving NA 500HP engine, couple with a manual transmission and RWD on a modern 911 chassis is BRILLIANT IMO!

The original 911R weighed 810 Kilograms (1786 lbs.) At 3021 lbs., the new R only missed that weight by a bit more than half a ton-- 1235 lbs. to be exact. That's how much the definition of "lightweight" has changed since I started driving 911s back in 1967.

^ agree with you Tom.

The only thing in common between these two cars is the name - 911R.

Saving weight by deleting AC and radio is cheating. Remove the passenger seat and will save even more.

I believe if the next GT3 is offered in both manual and pdk, well see 997 gt3 prices drop as well as a bunch of GT4's up for sale.
I would definitely consider a 991.2 GT3 with manual, but then again that all depends on the mrsp. I am not will to pay more for manual.

I wonder if the 991.2 GT3 engine will still rev to 9000 RPM. IMO i don't think so.

Lots of things have changed since 1967. I imagine if you hit a wall in your 1967 lightweight 911R, your odds of survival would have been absolutely fantastic!

You could always buy one, and rip everything out but one seat and 3 gauges....Drill the floorboards. People would LINE UP to buy that.

x2. Without a doubt the prices of 997.1 & 997.2 GT3's will drop if the 991.2 GT3 has a manual option. I'd bet a $20K drop as soon as the 991.2 GT3 manuals hit the dealerships.

Some interesting times now with Porsche. Boy, they certainly know how to keep everyone on the seat of their pants.
