BMW M4 GTS

i have been a bmw lover since its peak moments of e36/e39/e46 - have numerous of these in my store house (along with e9x's). the f gen was the last straw for me... the company seriously lost its way making these softly sprung fat porkers with no feel... i will tell my grandkids these older bimmers i have collected are the cars that built the great brand, before a generation of bad management sold out and destroyed it
as for the m2, i will let the jury be out till the experts (and I) drive them at length... it has the potential to recapture some of the lost magic dynamically (even if the styling is poor)
it is very hard for manufacturers to turn product and technology strategy around on a dime... for the last decade and a half bmw has been on a train of adding features, adding weight, and adding motor to get the car to go fast. trouble is that doesn't help handling, feel and nimbleness. they are now trying to reverse course and reduce weight, but they are doing so from a very high base so we who now live in p-car-land laugh out loud at a 3500-3600 lb 'performance car'... while bmw is rightfully proud to have pared that weight down from 3700-3800 pounds, while still having what they feel are needed features on the car...

^^ completely agree, but current Porsches are porkers too. Nonetheless the performance and dynamics of my current RS are absolutely mind blowing. I owned a recent M4 (after a decades long affinity for BMW) and tried for a year to like the car. No matter how much I tried, every single drive was a disappointment. Looked good sitting still though :-/

Dealers in SoCal are asking 50K over MSRP.
Apparently only select dealers in the US are getting allocations. Ahem, excuse me, an allocation.
Re: the wing in the back. I agree with the folks that think it looks either (1) stuck on and/or (2) something out of a Fast and Furious movie, but I think part of me also thinks we're spoiled here with the GT3/RS wings. The former being elegantly aggressive and the latter being "**** you aggressive"

I'll say it again : how could someone working for a serious car manufacturer throw that wing on and think it looks good?! It is mind blowing to me! It looks like a couple of ricers met in the backyard and decided to drill a few holes in the trunk to place a wing made out of the ironing board.

I was prepared to not hate it, considering I actually think the M3/4 are pretty nice looking cars....I think the wing looks ridiculous and the wheels don't do it for me either. The wing on the Gt4 looks so much more integrated by comparison....not some hastily concocted afterthought. That being said, I also have never fallen in love with the aerokit wing on my car either.

Have had numerous m cars.
Sold my e92 M3 to get into a GT3 RS. Thought I would miss the e92. I do not at all. Still have e30 M3s and an e46 M3 which are the best of the M3 series I would say. Only two M5s worth mentioning are the e28 and e39.
Since coming to Porsche I have little desire to get back into a modern BMW performance car.

I have an f80 in the stable and although they have departed from what an M car should be, the car is still a lot of fun. I live in Colorado and an e90 doesn't do it for me here. Something about drifting corners in the mountains at 3000rpms is a lot of fun.
Oh and the GTS is awful. Ugly and overpriced.

I was long a BMW guy, owned 2 E46 M3's and loved them. But to me the M division has lost its way, honestly all of BMW. But it's not just BMW really, all car companies are going bigger with more and more electronic doodads. Oh well.

The 991 GT3 wing looks the best in my opinion then GT4 and RS. The RS is just to big for me and it is certainainly function over form/looks. The Gt4 is the right size but has the same after market bolt on look like the RS which the GT3 does not.. The difference why the GTS looks fugly is that it looks like they bolted on a wing to a squared of rear of a coup. It does not flow at all where the other (3) do. There is something about how the rears of the Porsches sort of slope slightly downward and looks nice with the wing. The GTS no good
