Not to butt in, his recent failure was a G6 motor but it wasn’t a finger follower issue. IIRC it was a freak issue on the bottom end.

My SA was showing me in his system yesterday the 100’s of individual components that fall under this blanket warranty. He was showing me this as it’s what he uses for justification for not putting charges for diagnostic work on the customer... Meanwhile, the dealer across town was trying to make me pay for it every step of the way... But I digress.

Crossing my fingers that I’m on my way to a replacement. Got a misfire on 6, moved the coil to cyl 4 and plug to cyl 5 to isolate. Got it to go into limp mode immediately on my first drive - misfire is on 6 still. This time it threw a hard fault and not a delicate warning.

We’ll know more on Monday, but they’re confident that a replacement is coming. They actually did one a week ago, so the process is fresh to them.

Only one track day so far which was somewhat recent.

Good for you! The track day may have brought the condition on. I've read more than once where the motor seemed fine until a track day and then all that time at redline brings the FF issue to the surface.

Correct, it was a bearing failure. See other thread for details. My sense is that engines that accrue a lot of miles, and are driven hard at least some of the time, have an unacceptably high failure rate. Porsche is probably not dealing with lots of engine warranty claims because the majority of the cars are hardly driven, not because they've solved all of the problems with the engine. I hope I'm wrong.

I’m convinced the FF issue is mitigated enough with the G6’s that it shouldn’t be a concern. Hell, the TPC guys are enduro racing theirs.

You have to wonder if there will be any recourse down the road with opting for the warranty vs recall.

I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that the warranty was initially employed to spread out the replacements over a longer window - but at the end of the period that owners will get significant goodwill for any original failed engines with the FF issue. At $48k per, it’s not unreasonable to think that the attorneys will come out to address a systemic design flaw.

I suppose we’ll see when we get there.

Hi There - sorry to revive and old thread. I am looking at a 2014 model and when I asked the SA if the motor has been changed it was confirmed that it had been. How can I tell if it has been changed with an F or G series motor? Apologies in advance if this was covered - couldn't find the answer.

Has the motor been changed just once? All 2014s had engines changed out before the finger follower issue emerged. If it had a more recent third engine it could be the later versions.

It’s on the motor bottom right, the white sticker.

Not the best quality pictures, but this is where we're at today. Pictures just got sent up to HQ, but clearly we can all see the verdict with CYL 6, but 4 & 5 don't exactly look hot either.

If anybody needs data points - 2015 (F01231), 18,3xx miles, 1 track event, oil changed at least every 3k with a pair of blackstone reports that showed nothing abnormal in the oil.

Very excited, probability of becoming a "forever car" just increased 10 fold.

Nice! I like where this is heading for you. I know you've been wanting to hit the G lotto and I think you've got the ticket.

When my 2015 decided to throw a rod through cylinder 2. Porsche AG replaced it with a G motor. When the motor arrived at the dealership it had a inventory sheet on it that had the serial number which showed that it was a G. Traded the car for a newly spec'd 2018. It had 25k mileage on it when I traded it in. I was told it had too much mileage... only got 125k trade in for a 180k spec car.

That's awesome!! Congrats. Keep us updated. I'm joining this thread a bit late and saw you said you have done one track event, are you planning to do more?

I recently bought a 2015 GT3 on its 3rd motor. F, F, and now the G motor. It's been bulletproof for me and the previous 2 owners, all using it almost exclusively at the track. 7k miles on the G motor now and going strong. *subtly knocks on wood*

Quick Reply: How many 15-16 gt3's have engine replaced?
