I can tell you that I am completely on the other end of the spectrum from the person in the photo...whoever she maybe....

Ford is taking a very shortsighted approach in my humble opinion. Beautiful car but at $525,000 US the car is fully valued. The original GT was a bargain.
Yeah. I was kinda upset at the time. Made me re-think my allegence to Ford.

Very simply, I don't have enough social media presence.

Over it now.

A little of topic,

Wouldn't it be nice to go back to true homologation between the cars we see on track and the ones we can actually buy on mondays.

Not blaming Ford. Porsches new mid engined RSR is just as bad.

That's how it is supposed to be and that's exactly what American muscle was all about. This bs Ford is pulling could not be more upsetting to guys who have supported the brand for decades. Purchase 3 -5 Ford's every year this resume thing is a joke. If Chevy had a Ford GT product would switch to Chevy and with the Viper it's tempting to switch to Dodge FCA very tempting and I know a lot of guys just like me that buy Ford tempted to switch.

Go ahead blame them - bean counters suits that know nothing other than how to cut blue collar wages vs guys like Carroll Shelby Sterling Moss can kma

Vulcan AM - few guys have converted those to street legal expect the same from other GT3's.

You view this as a win I view this as a half assed commitment at best. Ford has 4000 GT customers the demand is there as is the dealerships.

Bottom line - the GT does more harm than good complete opposite of the previous GT.

Agree to disagree makes sense - Ford is better than this social media show as Guest 89 stated Ford is not committed - poor image.
I don't think there are 4K people worldwide who are willing to park $500k ina new Ford GT.

Plus the 911R isn't anything special in that they can easily make them by taking more 911s off the assembly line and throwing in the special bits that turn it into an R. It's not as involved as a carbon car built from scratch.

I disagree with the premise of the argument since Ferrari is a highly valued and successful brand and intentionally limits production numbers to around 7000 vehicles per year in order to “preserve the brand’s uniqueness”, -according to Sergio Marchionne. Limiting production from a uniqueness standpoint and from a production capability standpoint (increasing production of a hand built CF car is expensive and I'm sure sinking millions more into a facility that will not be needed in 5 years didn't make sense to Ford) are all justifiable reasons. In addition if the demand is greater than the supply, the value goes up. Simple economics. Although there will always be collateral damage of entitled people who are unhappy they didn't get a GT, 911R, 675LT, LaFerrari, etc... But with the means I'm sure they can all get one second hand.
I think it doesn't hurt Porsche as much because they have a variety of close substitutes for a 911 R, including the .2 GT3.

The closest substitute for a new Ford GT is ... a 675 LT IMO.

As for the social media thing, I have a good friend who has owned - and still has most of them - a long and wide variety of historically significant Ford road and race cars with substantial provenance (e.g. GT40, GT350R, Cobra), as well as landmark competition cars from other marques (Ferrari, Jaguar). No dice from Ford. He's a non-famous guy in his early 30s.

Well there were well over 8000 applicants - if they would have gone thru Ford dealers and there was a deposit we would know wouldn't we then add another 1000 guys like me who are not going to fill out a resume.

675LT is a version of a version of a version - the Ford GT is a one time same as the prior Ford GT that they sold 4000 but agree they should be a good match looking forward to a review.

Dealers work and know the market - take that away and you have a bunch of know nothings.

How many would've applied if they'd had to commit cash?

675 LT is the closest competitor to the Ford GT:

Carbon Tub
Lightweight
600-700 bhp from a TT 3.5-3.8 engine
Raw, aggressive
Paddle only transmission
Both exactly 500 units worldwide, later doubled to 1,000

I felt the same way as did many others.

Guest 89 - would agree and let the chips fall where they may again the dealerships would have resolved that question.

Let's say they make 1000 per year and there are 3200 US 7500 worldwide dealers - be willing to bet they would sell out every year and the MSRP would be lower more like 300 - 400k using the same mark up.

I think it's really hard to come up with a fair and ideal way to allocate only 250 cars with 8,000 applicants. No matter how it's done, there are unfortunately going to be some unhappy people. There are a lot of great, very qualified people who sadly didn't get a spot. I'm sure there are some people who arguably are far more qualified than I. I do think much of Ford's plan was to distribute directly to enthusiasts who hopefully will drive and enjoy them. I know they placed a fairly large priority on that, or I wouldn't have gotten a spot, and I suspect several of my friends wouldn't have either. FWIW, I'm glad Ford allotted the cars directly, and they didn't go thru dealers, who could play their own games, including ridiculous markups above what is already a high MSRP. Once my car arrives, happy to show it to RL folks.

Yikes. Quite the video. Not all applicants and not all folks who secured allocations submitted videos.

I did. My was a little more "stayed" shall we say. I talked about my love for the GT40 and a quick history of the car and why I love the car and my Ford Motorsport enthusiasm.

If I had known all it took was some foul language, Beach Boys music and some burnt rubber it would have been eaiser.
