All that we know is that the future of the RSR is mid-engined and if they don't bring it over to the RS/GT# I'm out as a customer.

Don't care about the power unit being NA/Turbo/Hybrid - I just want a fully developed chassis and power unit, not something made for the street.

umm, wasn't that linked article from September? Who remembers the Porsche head honcho that said "the 991 GT3 RS engine is completely NEW"? New from what? 997?

This morning I put these questions to August Achleitner, the man in charge of 911 development at Porsche, who revealed firstly the next generation of GT3 engine WILL use natural aspiration. Purists can breathe a sigh of relief.

Achleitner said: “Some people are concerned about us changing to the turbocharged engine and how this will affect other models, but we would like to keep natural aspiration to run in parallel with the turbocharged engine and so for the next generation the GT3 will be naturally aspirated.”

That's pre dieselgate though. Article dated Sept. 15.

Yeah. that was Hatz/Frankel interview. I think Frankel made a bungle there and didnt clearly word the question or disseminate the answer. What Hatz was saying is it was a totally new engine from the previous generation Rs (not current gen 991 GT3). Caused a bit of a raucous that one did.

OT. After many requests for the 991RS PET and/or 991RS Technical Sales manual (both available shortly after launch for 991 GT3) on various threads Im yet to see anything. It like t study these back to back against the 991 GT3 versions to see what changes were IN REALITY made between the MA175 & MA176 engines. So far we have been tld a new crankshaft but possibility is that may have already been incorporated into 991 GT3 design but dug up by marketing as a "differentiator". It probable is all new but Id like to look at the engine architecture more closely (filter numbers, oil lines etc) to see if any noticeable difference...

I think the cleaning lady is a bit tired cleaning up the mess made by people missing the bowl in the mens bathroom :-). Maybe we should give her a holiday till the New Year. 30/31 Jan seems like a long enough break and thats Daytona when Rosenburg can talk with some Level 2 sources and find out what really going down. We will know then if the MA175/6 engines will be running in competition so will answer a whole host of current questions (and no doubt pose some new ones).

No, the cleaning lady's info is post diesel gate, so probably more accurate.

Remember porsche is the most profitable car company in the world for a reason. They are probably more willing to do the bare minimum to the car just to milk more money out of us without spending more. But probably what will happens is VW and audi quality will probably suffer in an attempt to increase profit margins, or there will be just larger than previous price hikes on all new models.
Again, it's not about the cost of going FA. It's the image that VW, Audi, and Porsche need to convey during and after this fiasco....."we are clean and efficient....no, really we mean it this time!"

Non-Mezger engine has been tested and will be running at Daytona, according to a Level 2/3 source.

Sorry to pile it on you mate. Its only once a year we ask you to dig deep :-). Send us the chit for the drinks tent LOL! In all seriousness youll lay this one to bed with a single question. While you are there however try and find ut what you can about the MA175/6 issues and their potential relation to any issues they may have faced in preparing the non mezger engine for competition etc ;-)
