I will be sure to ask the owner of the GT3 next time I see him. I can't guarantee anything though . He was an extremely nice guy and was moving at a solid pace.
Needless to say I am impressed by both cars and would happily hoon either.
I think a lot of the difference in lap time here is due to driver disparity. I'm not saying the GT3 is slow, I'm saying you are a better driver at that track than the person in the GT3. If you switched cars, the gap would be even larger.
I'll bring my yellow GT4 to MSR next week and see what I can do...

This is what she had in her, with me driving, 100% stock, on her maiden shakedown session.
I think it has a 20 or better with more seat time, few more small alignment tweaks, and some dedicated track pads.
We will see as I plan to test my theory over the next month or so.
Yep, GT3 is the faster car on virtually any track, given stock setups and equal drivers (coming from a GT4 owner).
Even though this is a track video and people care which one is faster, the question you should be asking yourself Grant is : if you can own either but not both, which one would you choose? To me,having driven the GT3 and having owned the GT4 for 2 weeks, the answer is clear : the GT4. For many reasons : it feels smaller and nimbler,it has a manual of course, the mid engine feel is awesome and the price of admission is a bargain for what it's capable of doing.

Nick. If you said any different I like others here would be surprised. You need to have owned and tracked both to have a valid opinion really I believe. Also coming into this as someone who hates automated boxes isnt really going to help the bias either?
Ill reserve final judgement till Ive tried both on the track. But the GT3 is going to take alot of beating on track is all I can think right now. Not to mention the scream of the engine for the last 1000 rpm...:-)

Fair enough Mark. You'll be lucky enough to own both so I envy you.
I think I'll be very happy with my lowly GT4 for now.
I just took delivery of my GT4. I've not tracked it yet, but the first impressions are very positive. The design, look and feel are very unique to the GT4, but they have obvious connections to the GT3. I've not had the GT4 on the track yet, but I can't think it'll be near as fast as my GT3...the power difference for me is very apparent. However, it's a very cool tight little car that will be fun to test once a few hundred more miles are logged...
I think a 991 GT3 and a GT4 are a apples to oranges comparison (which I am sure we all agree on). Both are pretty different cars even though they share parts and a GT badge.
Ultimately I am sure the potiental of the 991 GT3 is higher (more power, PDK, more tech, and etc). However the performance of both is within a arms reach of one another and the gap can be easily be closed via drivers (on certain tracks).
I already chose If I wasn't so unyielding about the manual gearbox issue (as you are), I might've chosen differently.
True. It's looking like Porsche is cooking something for the next gen.
But seriously, manual transmission aside,I have never owned a mid engine Porsche. I love it!
