Exactly right - but Joe is referring to the hygroscopic property of brake fluid.

I agree - this interval is unheard of in the street car world.

If Porsche is changing their required maintenance intervals, this should be sent out in the form of a letter to every owner. Not everyone services at the dealer. Especially when you can DIY in 1 hour and save $1000 bucks.

I had my 12 month service done yesterday with 9000 miles on the car. I asked about the plugs and was told I didn't need to change them.

Is it just me or do things just smell fishy regarding the plugs. Don't know what to think anymore.

Well. I am getting my car done on recall Monday ( 2016 RS),
and I will get the plugs back, so will be able to have a reality view of any problems. No codes of any kind, just an abundance of caution.

As I said earlier if your SA just checks on what needs to be done yearly it will only show him/her its oil and filter service. and will mention spark plugs as in a 2 yr interval. BUT let them specifically check on SPARK PLUG interval NOT service/maintenance interval and a new memo will be shown that clearly states the change is yearly instead of 2 years.

I agree with all of you. Yearly seems too soon, thats why I went there in person and saw the memo. The memo is on the Porsche ONLINE system(thats where the SA needs to look).

Maybe it has to do with the 9000 rpm engine as all other engines dont have this yearly spark plug change. They may be trying to be safe from all aspects so they dont run into another fiasco with the GT3 engines.

These are the plug from my car a 2014 none recall car changed the plugs as per new Porsche recommendation to be done yearly. You can see compared to above pic with faulty coils my plugs look "dry" and pretty much new

So I wonder what would cause the difference in the recalled cars vs the non recalled cars? Maybe the non recalled cars can still stick to the every 2 year plug change?

If these are additional maintenance costs, going forward, they should perform them free for the course of the warranty to help off-set longer term costs

in our oem supply maintenance manual

page 15 , 911 GT3 additional maintenance every 12,000 miles but not later
than two years
replace spark plugs.

above that states change oil every 12k or not later than 12 months.

If P changes the schedule to published maintenance on a $150k car they
should send a notice to the owner .

And if one asks your P dealer service advisor and he concurs with the published said schedule , but then you need to tell him oh no wait look up
spark plugs memos I heard something on RL . Really not everyone reads RL or even knows what RL is
just saying maybe P needs to update service bulletin to dealers or lick some stamps to there devoted customers

What I find very peculiar is that this recall, from my understanding, is from more recently manufactured cars and crosses both the GT3 and RS. What is different??
