Just found this from the last RCN race - the 4 hours race.


The BMW M235i Racing I'm chasing in the video was my big nemesis in the race.
I was generally faster but he had more power... It was extremely annoying and in a way fun too. We fought more or less for 12 laps. Eventually I overtook him just before Adenauer Forst after being really aggressive in Fuchsr�hre.

This is a video from the big crash at Nordschleife the 1 Nov 2017. (It was a 997 GT3RS that lost coolant who initiated this bad sequence of events.)

It is horrific but there is a lot of lessons to learn from it.

Some suggest that you should not leave your car - that is probably very true in many situations.
But - if you leave your car to warn fellow drivers: Keep the mandatory safety west in your door pocket or somewhere really close so you have something yellowish to wave with in order to warn on-coming cars. It really helps.

As you can see in the video - if you leave the car - leave the track. You never know where a car will end up. As you can see the guy who parks his car very much out of the line, still get hit.

Is there some kind of penalty for 997GT3RS driver or just "insurance case" ??

Difficult to answer - I don't know German laws.
In a way the 997 is innocent unless it can be proved that he'd neglected his car, and that it was his fault that the car spilled coolant. I guess it is an insurance case.

This was during Tourist driving so German law apply.
So for instance driving so fast that you can not stop in time when needed is probably an offence. (!)

It is easy to think of Nordschleife as a race track when doing Tourist driving, but it is not - it is a toll road, a very strange toll road.

Might be safer to pass the accident and park up ahead to avoid further damage and “blockage” of cars piling up in to one another or even pass and get to the next flag man to inform and leave it to the professionals to clear. What do you guys think? Seems like many times even more harm created when trying to help others in an accident on the track.

I agree: Passing the accident is safer for everyone.

It is good to think thru stuff like this in advance to be prepared to react in a good way when something happens.

But to be fair: This is so depending on exactly where on track it is and what the situation is. But still - you need to have a plan ready even though it is not possible to cover everything. But at least having a basic idea of how to handle a situation is very good.



You also should consider the possibility that it is you who is having an accident. It does not need to be a bad accident. Maybe just a puncture or you run out of gas...
What should you do in that case?

Do you have the phone number to the marshals on speed dial?

Do you know that you can park park your car safely on a lot places on the track?

Do you know where your first aid kit is?
