Another Thermostat

Last night on the way to our club meeting the check engine light came on with the 'Safe to Drive, see dealer' warning. Checked the gauges and the water temp had not moved in 15 miles with outside temp at 64F. The oil temp was still on the bottom as well. On the return trip the temps started to come up but then went down again. This morning on the way to the dealer started to warm and then went down. It never got hot. Kinda reminds me of my XX![Mad](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif)
I sent a message to the SA at POV last night advising him of the problem and indicating I'd like to bring it in. The guy was off work and he still responded and said he would have a rack cleared and waiting for me at 8:00AM! Now that's service.
The tech diagnosed it as a bad thermostat and ordered one for install tomorrow morning.
2015 with 7800 miles.

Yip. Not "if" but "when", and not model year dependent.
Got my second one last week at 9000 miles. First one on replacement engine (at 2200 miles).
This is what the failed version looked like (below). 2-3mm opening when "shut". Not strictly a manufacturer issue - the issue has persisted since the Gen 2 997s - now for 5 years. The thermostat is being asked to do a lot (its not just a thermal spring but has an electronic interface to ECU). Its all to do with making the engine more efficient so blame EPA etc....

My one just went out today as well. The fans at the front went into overdrive mode. I guess the car is being cautious as it doesn't know the temperature of the coolest (which stayed at zero). The oil had a hard time getting warm - it didn't go above 120ish even on a 15m+ journey - I guess because the front fans were going at max speed. They make quite a lot of noise and even vibrate the steering wheel a bit. It makes me feel good knowing the car has such an amazing ability to cool itself.
Well, at least I have a loaner Panamera until they can get the parts and fix it....
2014 5,900 miles.
