Gold wheels.

Default Stripes and PPF

For those of you with stripes and particularly custom stripes on your R, are you putting paint protection film over the stripes?

My SA mentioned yesterday that there's a danger with the PPF peeling off the stripe on redo or adjustment.

for those of you with a custom stripe, do you know if ordering a replacement from Porsche is a possibility?

Lastly, if you decide to do stripes after delivery, can you put stripes on top of PPF?

thanks!

Bartron, I don't have an R on order, but from looking into adding foil for other cars I understand that it is possible to put film over decals/stripes. There is a small risk it will damage the stripes when removing the film (although this has been done many times with no issue-- since film is less "adherent" than decals which are intended to be more "permanent" and sticky); and there may be a small imperfection (air/gap) in how the film adheres along the edge of the non-zero-thickness decals. I've been told customers may sometimes order a second set of decals (not sure if the factory will offer this for CXX 911R stripes), or simply not install them and put them on top of the film (but then for sure they'll be lost when replacing the film). FWIW, 3M gives a finite lifetime for the foil material, so it's probably not worth "saving" decals for many years in case they don't adhere or in case they are not perfect in the future. But I don't really know what happens to the material if left for years.

Bottom line, I'd simply put film over top.

Foils or decals are super easy to replace. Original paint? Not so much

R Stripes are from 3M colour range, so will be easy to replace in future to "OEM spec"

^Yes, that's right. However, the 3M product line that is used by the factory is a European product not available in Canada / USA. This means it MAY be slightly harder for customers in North America (and perhaps other countries?) to get the exact product in the exact same colour aftermarket in the future. There are lots of alternatives that are close enough. Also, I believe the standard green and red R stripes are not available through 3M, as they were custom colours made for PAG--in case anyone is thinking to try and make replica stripes.

Thanks for the link! Another glowing review. Interesting they think the slightly lower centre of gravity is noticeable. I wouldn't have guessed that. Amazing how all the little changes (curb weight, COG, engine, suspension, RWS tuning, gearing, steering, aero, tires, etc) combine to create a unique and wonderful new driving experience that can't be found elsewhere. Congrats to all the lucky owners!

Though I confess a liking for all 911s, I cannot remember when one received so much praise as has the 911R.
