I certainly agree with a lot of what you're saying. However the example you reference is exactly my point. There were ~600 997.2 RS 4L's. This car was the absolute last of the Metzger engined, manual, analog cars. In fact, it was the very last of the 997 gen alltogether. It marked the end of a lineage.
Now come the 991.1 911R. It's a car that certainly is the sum of its amazing parts, but that with almost certainty will again be offered only months further down the road in the 991.2 GT3.
I suppose that's what I'm struggling to wrap my head around.

So in my opinion there are a lot of "maybe's." This maybe thing is a contributory factor in driving the prices even more. It will really be interesting what the next 991.2 GT3 specs is all about. Then again how many people are already in line of that car. Not sure about you but here in Illinois, there is an average of twenty people deep on their list not to mention the VIPs who will get first dibs.
In conclusion, our Porsches especially in the "GT" series line, in general are highly sought after. Cool thing to have especially if you get the model you like.

Don't forget, in 2009, 2k miles, $150k msrp 997.1RS's were offered in the low $90k's. I would give it a 70% chance that 991R will be offered below MSRP within the next five years.

Agree with you regarding the LWFW, seems to be a must-have on this car. Earlier I passed on an 150k over build just because it was an early delivery and build, no LWFW option. Yes A/C, no radio.
But I will keep looking and waiting and hoping for one that will be driven, not parked, not flipped. Sorry C.J., but I would do 150 over today for a December delivery. Silver or white.....any out there ????
Guess I need to get in line........

I know the weight difference is immaterial on the road, but it's kind of bugging me that i've got PCM at all, given the ethos. Also, i'm told that it's pretty difficult to hear much anyway with the SMF! Google maps is fine...
If I take PCM out later, will I be left with speakers etc that i wouldn't have if it was deleted? Or, conversely, is the wiring etc all included whether you delete the head unit or not (I've seen this before in supposedly lightweight cars)?
Considering whether to try to delete it again, although it may be too late. Thanks

And to Footsoldier - glad to know you are getting one. Even though I don't know you personally, I am always glad to hear about folks getting what they want especially when they are actually going to drive it. Enjoy and post a pic when it gets here.

So is it half full or half-empty, a discount from the rumored US$1.3M circulating in the internet.

991.2 GT3 will most likely use the same manual from the 991R. Even if the engine is only 3.8, it will drive exactly the same (at worst with some minor after market mods worth few $k). This will bring the 991R prices down within few $10k of MSRP. 991R should not be compared to 997.2 RS 4.0, IMO.

I inquired about this picture, is this particular striping (double/pin striping) can be requested to PAG via "Porsche Exclusive" dealer here. Answer is that, it is not an option.
It is a good idea as an after market. But if you are the OEM type, then this kind of striping is not done through Porsche nor on any of their authorized or licensed vendors.

Interesting find. Asking price is a cool US$800K. Whomever buys this will be the "second" owner, which means it is a 918 original owner trying to flip it for instant cash. So is it half full or half-empty, a discount from the rumored US$1.3M circulating in the internet. Drive safe, GT3RS-Fan1

Thanks for that info. I'm a little surprised that they don't offer it, seeing as it is on a car with factory plates. Maybe a one-off for a special client that doesn't want it replicated??? Or a factory worker playing around???

On second thought why would Porsche mid-stream make such options available? That wouldn't be fair to the first few owners who have already placed their orders. Plus I do know there are a few deliveries made here in the states. If I get some pictures from my dealer (permission granted), I'll try to post them even though they are not my car.
The double/pin-striping really looked cool though. Like my dealer said as an after market that was probably how that was done. Thanks for sharing such cool graphics.

Thanks for enquiring about it. Too bad it's not available. As for changing options mid-stream, that's happened before, and even the SMFW is only available starting later in production. It just struck me as strange that these were seen on a car that appears to be a factory car. I would have guessed that anything done to that car would have been done by the factory. Whether they'd make everything available to customers clearly is a different story though.

Or a dealer who happens to own a 918 and flip their car.
Which is way more likely than a simple 918 owner.
