Saw this on a McLaren forum and just thought it interesting (if in fact true). A guy posts up "his and hers" photos
of his McLaren and 918. When asked what color the 918 is he replied that it's MSO Cerulean blue and it "took a bit
o(f) organizing to get it done". Just surprised me that Porsche would paint a car in a McLaren PTS color. Guess when
you're a VIP you can do anything?!!
You don't have to be a 918 VIP to get a competitor's color on your Porsche.
PTS at Zuffenhausen is all about satisfying the demands of their customers,
not their own corporate ego. Currently approved PTS colors for even us
non-VIP commoners include Ferrari's 'Rosso Corsa' & a bunch of Italian 'Grigios'
(Campovolo, Telesto, etc) from Maranello or Modena, BMW's 'Atakama Yellow',
'Estoril Blue Metallic' & 'Phoenix Yellow Metallic', VW's 'Golf Blue', Lamborghini
Miura's 'Verde Racing Green Metallic' & the generic Anglo-Saxon 'British Racing
Green'. And for you Francophiles, 'Peugeot Blue Trivoli' is under feasibility study
too! Oh là là!
And to show their devilish sense of Teutonic humor, Porsche has even approved
for PTS one of the colors of the Toyota FJ Cruiser - 'Voodoo Blue'. And surprisingly,
that hue has become a big hit with gt3 RS enthusiasts, especially here at Rennlist!
So PAG is an 'equal opportunity' PTS provider as long as you 'show them the money'!
Thanks Eduardo - I thought you'd know the answer!!
Does that mean that Cerulean blue is an approved color from here on in and that it wouldn't have to go thru feasibility again? I understand that approved colors are not necessarily approved for all models though?

Nein. The PTS colors approved for the 918 Spyders are separate
& apart. Those colors & their chemistry were specifically approved
for the panels & materials used on that specific model...and not for
the 991, 981, Macan or Panamera. However some colors requested
by 918 customers for PTS were already approved for the 991/981.
But many were not...like 'Cerulean' if that is in fact the color in that
photo.
And PAG made a lot of special concessions for the VIP's that ponied
up for those uber-expensive super car. For example, colors used
in some 'Limited Editions' that were never allowed to be ordered
via PTS, like 'Sport Classic Grey', were given the OK to be copied
on a VIP's 918. Same for 'Pure Blue' of the MY2012 997 Speedster.
And even 'RS Orange', 8C6, which was retired from PTS duty after
MY2010, was brought back & approved for a client's 918.
Here is a partial list of approved PTS colors for the 918 which was
released before all 918s were built. After this list was publish, many
other colors were subsequently approved, like 'Arrow Blue', 'Acid
Green Metallic', two-tone 'Psychedelic Hippies' (2), two-tone 'Gulf'
Blue & Orange (3)...and perhaps even an odd-ball 'Cerulean Blue'!

PS - it's a gorgeous color whatever!!
Eduardo, a long, long time ago I almost asked you what knowledge you had of McLaren's color offerings. I never mentioned this because I didn't want your head to explode and lead you down the rabbit hole of finding a whole other world of paint options, possibly comparable to Porsche. Maybe.
Having spent some time over at the McLarenLife forums, I can attest that many owners that have owned nearly every brand of car claim that McLaren has the best paint finishes / color choices in the industry. A tall claim, and one I cannot verify.
But the thought of a McLaren 'Elite' or 'MSO Bespoke' paint job on a new Porsche and all that McLaren's paint specialists must do (wet sanding / multi-layering) included would simply blow my mind. Unfortunately, this seems to be more of a 'VIP' Porsche thing, and not something they would be willing to do on 'just' a 911 - but I would love to be pleasantly surprised in the future!
Knowing the guys here I may not get completely ridiculed for asking this (or perhaps I'll take a beating), but which blue most closely matches the bezel on the current white gold submariner?

How about 'Club Blau'?

That photo of Mexico looks a lot like Miami in the other photo, so I concede comparing different photos is fraught. But here's the previously posted shot of the paint samples together, showing the difference in a single photo (showing only Riv, Miami, Mex).
