991RS Review thread

I felt the same way. He made a big mistake of driving the Aston before the Mclaren. The sound of the Aston is incredible and the lack of sound in the Mclaren is terrible. I don't care how good the Mclaren is, it's still sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
The RS is the best combo there is! But still can't get over how good the Aston sounded in that video.

2. Aston
3. 650s
That's how I will rate the cars. For me the RS has the best balance between the 3 and even it has a slower lap time than the 650S, thinking that it's 150hp less... That's not bad at all.

One thing not mentioned is reliability and maintenance. Does anyone really believe the Aston and Mclaren will hold up to a decent flogging monthly? Maintenance we all know they are expensive, but the Aston will be in shop more than on the track in real world ownership, the Mclaren.......I don't even have a shop within 600 miles so just not comparable in anyway. No brainer in my book......
I do think the choice of the RS over the GT3is valid, in my mind the RS is worth the upgrade without question but I understand the argument against and think it is a worthy competition of the balance of road vs track. If Road>Track then GT3 if Track>Road then RS but for me the RS is simply that much better in every regard sans regular street driving.

+1 Great point, Harris may have a point that Porsche (or dealerships) never thought in regards to the ballooning price of RS cars putting it in a price category of car it was not meant to pick a fight with i.e. Hurracan, 650S, etc.

Also if CH sounds like he wants the RS most (and likely he really does), how much of that is down to him really wanting one at list so he would instantly make an easy £50+k.....?

In regard to reliability, my Aston was horrible in this regard. The entire transmission unit failed shortly after delivery and you never really knew whether the car would start. For me the only emotions with the emotional control unit were anxiety and embarrassment.

I couldn't agree more, the RS def has way more feel for the road but on the street that isn't necessarily a good thing. Feeling every little nook and cranny of a crappy public road can be exhausting. On the track, especially an FIA track, it is just awe inspiring I know its not hydraulic but it sure feels like it.....kind of

Wifey has driven it a few hours and approves.. She also noticed the other cars are really slow LOL.
BTW, I've seen a bunch of RS on track. Seen one McLaren UK owned and no Astons. Ive said that I wouldn't buy a Porsche if I didn't track (A lot) but rather something more dramatic and comfortable. Now it is dramatic and comfortable but for me the quiet sub 4K RPM needs to be louder. Other than that, what more could you want from a car?
The best thing is that I don't miss my manual. I don't want one anymore in a car this fast. 964 5 speed, GT4 6 speed.. Perfect.
In the 991RS I have enough of a challenge steering and pedal modulation at this speed.. Its is so much faster than the 997 4.0 that I cant quite trust the 991RS at the limit, it seems impossible you need to stay ahead of the car at this speed but its still very playful. 964 -997 all drive the same, this doesn't.

LOL LOl..I got just enough saved up for 6 payments.. Should be enough to cover 10K track miles :-)

I continue to feel that the 997 was the last generation that strongly retained the classic 911 feel. The 991 is still a 911 in important ways, but the differences from previous gens are so extensive that I think of it as a new 'modern' kind of car. Old and new are different, and I like both.

Several reviewers with good cred say the RS is more supple on the road than the 3 and the 3 is as good as a daily driver as the GTS. Thing about the Mac track time vs RS is that it depends on the track. In this comparison the Mac beats the RS by a fraction but in an earlier track test by CH, the 3 beat the 650.
IMHO the Mac looks ugly from the rear and in light colours the front looks like a smiling clown. Turning radius on the Mac is horrendous.
