Default Boring: One way ticket BWI to FLL - Awesome: Drive home

I ordered my car back in October from Champion, it just happened an allocation became available on my Birthday. So that took all of two seconds to decide, I was going to pull the trigger. Mike Szabo let me know there was an allocation able, I spoke with him a put a deposit down. Over the next couple of days, I put together the configuration and the car was ordered. Supposed to be built mid November, but the LWB shortage pushed the build out. The car was eventually built in January. It finally showed up at Champion a couple of weeks ago. We quickly cleared our calendar and last Wednesday flew down to Ft Lauderdale. Mike picked us up at the airport and took us to Champion where the red beast was sitting out front waiting. After almost 5 months there was the car. Thought I was dreaming. Guards Red is running, thanks to Mike in CA for posting pictures of this car. Those pushed me to Guards Red and seeing in person I knew that was the right choice.

We spent a few days down in Florida enjoying the warm weather, caught a spring training game and enjoyed the beach. We drove back on Saturday and spent the night at Hilton Head island. Then made the final track to home on Sunday. When we pulled in the drive way the car had 1463 miles on it.

From reading on here, I knew what to except, jerkiness of PDK in auto (drove in manual all the time), rattle of the deck lid, and some other minor things. But car is AWESOME!!!, can't say enough. Did find the comfort limit of the LWB, about 5 hours, then my a$$ starts to hurt. The butt cushion becomes very hard. Compared to the 997.2 GT3, the 991 is much more comfortable for a long drive (wife even said something about it even before I asked). First impression sitting in the car, boy it's big. Stereo sounds good, when compared to the basic stereo in the 997.2. First mod was to pull off the small cushions on the LWB. Car ran great, varied the RPM's the whole way back, which made the drive loads of fun. Lots of engine braking and roll on throttle spurts.

I can't saw enough about the awesome experience at Champion, we were in an out in a hour. Would have been less time if I didn't BS so much with Mike. If you need something PM for his contact info.

Here's some pics of the pickup. hotel parking, traffic at south of the border SC/NC (border), and all tucked in at home .

writing this makes me want to go for a drive, too bad getting snow today Enough already!!!

Sorry for the ramblings, this car is more then I expected. Reading about it is one thing, but until you get behind the wheel and turn the key, you just don't realize what it's like.

Did u eat the chimichangas at Pedro's? After seeing the 4 million signs on the road it almost becomes a mandatory stop (similar to Wall Drug in SD).

Enjoy the car!

Congrats on your car. I have a GR that I would pick up tomorrow. Did you have a clear bra installed before you did your trip?

Now I cannot sleep.

Todd

Big congrats from a fellow Champion customer, in fact I started my car for the first time in that same
parking spot as you show pictured .
I took delivery the Saturday after Thanksgiving ,that day the team at Champion delivered 17 Porsches , I think they must use Mobil One in the coffee there just awesome.
Back in June of 2010 I took delivery of my Targa 4S and the next day road tripped it to R.I.
varying the throttle and speeds that cars engine 65 track days later never blinked , not a hic-up .
Have Fun Enjoying that new GR beauty !!

Great story! Passion is the theme here! Red looks great... I'm heading out tomorrow to get the final 600 miles before 9K comes in to play...AND, I'm going to try to yank those LWB inserts out before I leave!
