If you are going to try it, you would want to run at least a 9.5" wheel like the RS and see if it will fit.

265 front and 325 rear is really the ultimate setup for the 991 GT3 if money is no object. However, once you go to those widths, you are only dealing with a few tire choices (Cup2's, Trofeo's, Maxx Race, Hoosier) and those choices are very expensive and don't wear particularly well although their grip is generally very good. If money is not an object and maximum grip is what you seek, then that is the route to take. If money is a roadblock then you have to be a little more creative. Currently mine, and I believe Joe's, favorite setup factoring in price and grip is the 255/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear RE71R's.

Thanks for that info. I like that set up.

Your welcome. I have learned so much from Joe and others on the forum and now have done some of my own experimentation, so I am happy to pass it along as others have done to me. Best of luck with your setup and driving.

Three Wheelin'
The RE71R on 19" wheels seem pretty affordable. Using Tirerack as the gage, RE71Rs are $450 less per set compared with N spec Cup 2s.
What's a reasonable set of 19" wheels run? $4k? 9 sets of tires would be the break even point.

I should make a small update:
1). A good buddy was kind enough to let me use his 19" forgelines on my car. In order to get them to fit, we had to swap out a toe link bolt. Oem part 99907353001. The car is riding on 255-35-19 and 305-30-19 Bridgestone Re71r tires. Overall rolling diameter is about 1" lower than stock, but zero issues with abs or esc. The car feels great. These tires are substantially cheaper than cup2, last longer, are more consistent, and they don't heat cycle out. I'm getting even tire wear all around as well. Love the setup. I only had one full session in the car with a bunch of traffic, but my 2nd lap out was 1:58 over the top at thill. I should be able to match or beat my best time of 1:57.4 there with these tires.
Sounds like the Re71r's are as good/better as the cup 2's? How about the overall grip level? Looks like the N spec cup 2's have dropped by almost $200/set from what I can see-weren't they just south of $2000/set last year(don't remember exactly)? Originally sure I was going to get a set of 19" rims, but am now starting to rethink it. They're really not heat cycling out? So you basically change when you see cords? Reading your post really has me looking for the 19" rims again! Would love to hear if you've had more experience with them since your last post, or anybody else for that matter. Much appreciated.

However, the tire does not heat cycle out and are good until the tire cords.
Also, the tire is much more resistant to heat and is very consistent through the entire session. With the cup2, you have less than 5 laps to get a fast lap time down. With the RE71R, I've gotten some of my fastest laps on lap 2, but also on lap 12.
I'm a huge fan of RE71R.

Based on my experience with multiple sets on the GT4, the grip level is equivalent to cup2.
However, the tire does not heat cycle out and are good until the tire cords.

By 8-10 heat cycles with the cup 2's I've dropped 2-3 miles/hr through longer sweepers. I haven't seen cords in the last 4-5 sets of the cups 2's b/c of the drop off with heat cycles.
Have the similar experience with Cup 2. You got me thinking hard about moving to this new to me 19" and RE-71 set up.

Interesting new tires arriving from Pirelli. These tires have a chip inside them, The chip measures tire pressure, tire temperature, vertical load, tire wear, and the number of kilometers driven per tire. Pirelli says a future version will also estimate remaining tire life and act as a remote tire pressure gauge when the tires are being inflated. The current version also alerts the driver through the smartphone app when the pressure of one or more of the tires drops too low or when the wear limit is approaching.
Hmmmm....what's next....a chip for brake pad wear?
