Be like me and consider an M2 or 718S. It's a challenge! I'm still holding out hope that the next GT4 will have a PDK. If not, a C8 vette with a DCT sounds pretty nice. Maybe a GT350R with a DCT. For the moment, though, very torn between an M2 and 718S. Not looking forward to upgrading front brakes on a brand new, 90k 718S. Feels more approachable on a 57k M2
Drove a 350R at sonoma. Awesome engine. The best way I can describe driving it is 'awkward'. Bad seating position. Car sits too high. The car is very capable, but you will need to work 2-3 times as hard to pull off the times it is capable of doing. Compare to a late model Porsche where you just get in and go. Also consider that the 350R tires are gone after TWO track days.
Corvette GS has worse tire problems than the GT3. Wider, more expensive, and cup2 only.

Corvette GS should be able fit an 18" wheel and you can typically run a 315/335 combo. You can either run Toyo R888 or R888R, or even Nitto NT01's. I was able to get about 5 track days out the NT01's and R888's.

Did extensive research on the cars on MayorAdamWest's list as a potential relatively inexpensive backup track car. Narrowed it to GT350 and M2 but both have limitations and now rethinking the selection. The GT350 for what Joe has stated and the M2 because it has dinky calipers and very intrusive nannies. You'll have to track it with all electronics off which may or may not be a big deal to you. Otherwise the car is fantastic.
Regarding the Grand Sport. The Z07 package adds 15.5" and 15.3" calipers. I don't think there's any way 18's will fit.

Personally I use a second set of OEM wheels with MPSSs for the street, and keep the original wheels/MPSC2s for the track. Last well IMHO.

Aren't those the same calipers and rotors on the Z06? If so, guys have been running 18" wheels from Finspeed, Forgeline and CCW. It is a tight fit but it works. And, running either NT01's and Toyos makes the tire proposition somewhat affordable compared with Sport Cup2's.

Finspeed make 18"s that fit, barely, over the CCMs on the FE7 car. Many 19" wheels will fit nicely which opens up the tyre selection. Lots of extra choices of course on the non-Z07 optioned car as the calipers are smaller.

Thanks guys, really great information here

Three Wheelin'
There isn't great info online about what "unique suspension tuning" means with the z07 package on the GS. It lists, sport cup tires and ceramic brakes. All GS come with the magnetic suspension. So the only thing I can think of is perhaps it has multiple settings with the magnetic ride. If they changed spring rates , etc, then they would be bragging about it.

And maybe the performance data recorder comes std in z07? Either way, I wouldn't opt for it myself. Brembo steels with a better pad and fluid would work just fine.

Hi All, Doing my first track event in my recently acquired 991 GT3. Everything stock, and putting new heat cycled MP Cup tires on. I am by no means an expert driver, and still very much learning the car. Much discussion on sway bar settings for track......soft front Med rear, middle front hard rear. Have not made it thought your now 118 pages of information, but any recommendations to start learning this car on the track? Got a couple auto crosses in the car before it got cold here on the east coast, and soft back and med front was nice for slow speeds and keeping the back in line......Thanks all for newbee GT3 guy
