Guys, I still think you should Opti-coat your rims. It makes cleaning a breeze. This will help with the brake dust adhering to the rims for prolonged periods - can't hurt

my detailer says that this will have zero impact on the chip issue... but you are right that it certainly cant hurt...and for those with iron brakes, will make dust cleaning easier

You may be right but I agree it will limit brake dust adhesion and definitely make cleaning easier. I just swapped my Platinum rims with a Rennlister who had the Black upgraded ones'. I will have Opticoat applied on Friday. It is only $125 for a polish, application, and a piece of mind for all 4. It will not prevent small stones from chipping at higher speeds but it will guard against the small scratches. The finish on these rims in my opinion is "soft". But - when they look too f'ugly I will have them powder coated

Yup, definitely OptiCoat the wheels. And while your detailer is at it, have them OptiCoat the calipers.

^ I just do not want some detail shop removing my wheels to access them. That would bug me out a little.

Don't need to remove wheels.

Ge the car on a lift, and it's (the calipers as well as the inside of wheels) easily accessible.

Yeah, I normally would have an issue with some goofball detailer removing my wheels (esp. CL), but fortunately my detailers shares space with a tuner shop, so not only does he access to a lift but CL wheel removal tools.

That said, like you, I'd rather not have them remove my wheels and my detailer agreed it was an unnecessary hassle.

But being the perfectionist he is, he put the car on lift, and got all the wheels done, as well as the calipers and underside of exhaust pipes -- as if anyone will know. But me.

500 miles on the car so far. No track miles. No chips. I did get the tire and rim insurance/warranty for 3 years just in case.

Any updates from those who filed a report with PCNA about this? I now have this on all 4 wheels (front > rear) and am having my dealer look into it. Would be good to know how this has been handled for other owners. Thanks!

Only 1 track day and 3,000 miles so far and I can easily find chips on every wheels...
Mine are gloss black. Very disapointing.

I only had 1-2 chips before my track day. Now the wheels are covered (and no, I did not exited the pavement!)

I'll talk about it with my dealer and report back if I have interesting feedback (I doubt).

I wonder if others with aftermarket wheels have the same problem (car related) or this is just an OEM wheels paint issue... I would consider aftermarket for track days and keep OEM for road stuff.

Anybody with aftermarket wheels?

I also have the black wheels and about 1000 track miles. Minor chips that I cover up with the Porsche black touch up tube.

I looked carefully and orthojoe's wheel and at wheel of some other '15 cars and have not seen at most 1/10th of the number of chips I have, despite comparable use... I suspect there are some differences in finish.
