Default Mezger vs. 991 motor

Guys now that you have put some miles on your 991 GT3's what are your thoughts on the new motor vs, the 997,996 GT3 motor? Anything noticably different in driving or sound? Anything noticable after a couple sessions on the track? Are you as happy with this new motor or does the PDK niggle you?
Just curious.

It blows away my previous one.

Old guy. Probably better if CarreraGT, fast lane, mooty and a few if the other multiple mezger engined prior owners chip in here for maximum validity. I myself have had 993rs and 996.1GT3 and by comparison I'm very very happy with this engine - it is the best sounding production engine IMO I have heard - sounds As good in the car as outside! My only complain about the engine is more a flat six issue - it lacks low down torque like all it's atmosphere prefers does. Another 50-70lbft down there would be magic but given they only managed 10lbft with the 4.0RS I doubt this will ever changed without a turbo...

Let me put it this way. If I had kept my.2 GT3 it would be sitting in the garage collecting dust.
Power is available almost instantly compared to .2 GT3. You will surprise yourself how quickly Everything happen. All I can say is be careful. This car is FAST, no It's freaking FAST and the gear change is lighting fast. The old GT3 you had to work hard to get there. I like having all the power available instantly.
The handling is way better. It feels like I am part of the car. I don't get tossed around as much and the ride comfort is way better. The old GT3 was at times too bumpy of a ride.
The interior design is much nicer.
The steering feel on .2 was much better than the new GT3 . It might be just me but its a little on the soft side. I guess it's part of making the new GT3 as a DD. IDK.
Cheers

It handles much better AND the ride comfort is much better? Hmm...generally these are mutually exclusive.

Not really. Proper combo of RWS, wider track, better dampening, stiffer chassis, etc. can do amazing things for a car's characteristics.

The same was said for the transition from the MP4-12C to the 650s.

I suspect that there's some serious sorcery going on with the PASM. During my little test drive, even with the dampers in the stiffer setting, I was surprised at how compliant the suspension was, even on bumpy roads. Even more so with dampers on the softer setting. That means the spring rates aren't particular high, so the dampers are somehow achieving a combination of being stiff enough to prevent the car from rolling, pitching, or otherwise being floaty, while still letting the springs soak up the bumps.

porsche may do that at the factory...I will pay attention to the 4200 rpm for 2k miles break in rec for the most part.
That motorcycle breakin article is suspect at best. The GT3 motor is not a motorcycle motor. I'm sure there will be many who disagree. Drive it like you stole it right out of the box ? I certainly would not want to buy one of those cars used.

YES strangely so....
if u go slow its docileike accord.
if u hammer it, it will
blow by 3.8 Rs like they are parked

I think it's even faster than my 4.0

I don't know and I hate to rank if 3.8 Rs is better or if 991gt is better. but if I didn't have 4,0 I would have kept 3.8 and added 991. but I
think they have fundamental differences that's hard to compare. I really do like them
both. but it's easier to drive the 991 on daily basis.

991 power band seemed wider than 38
it corners flatter than 38
sound is about same outside but quieter inside
durability of engine is unknown since it's so new

but at today's pricing, and u are a not a collector, I
think u are missing out on life if u don't have a 991

Great insight Mooty....you've got the wheels turning in my head.
I can only have 1 911 in the garage & now might be the best time to sell my 997.1RS.
