991 GT3 production ending
#61
918 owners get first shot at RS...BUT their allocation is separate from that of the "normal" RS allocations to the dealer. So if dealer is allotted 3 RS's and 2 918 owners want the RS, the 918 owners will get them first but the other 3 allocations will still be there. It won't be like 3-2.

I bought my '11 GT3RS off the showroom floor it was available to anyone. It was the 2nd one I could have bought. There was a new GT3 sitting next to it. All this hysteria is for nothing. The market for 150K impractical toys is limited. Some of the current stuff is because not all of the 14's have been delivered. When the GT3RS hits the GT3's will be old news. This is a repeated pattern. The are flogging the 918 hard. Demand has not been there.

For other models, did you look at increases between back-to-back model years or with the same 3.5 year gap GT3 had? I think the gap in production years can explain much of the bigger increase for GT3. Also, the 991 GT3 is really nicely equipped in base version. I've just compared it to a base 911 (not S) optioned to well over $100K, and my almost base GT3 was still more nicely equipped. I don't know if the same was true for previous generation, but it's good value in my view.
I did quickly look up the current price difference of 991S vs the 2011 997.2S. And it is about 9% ($98900 vs $90500). So still lower than GT3, but not as big a difference as I previously posted. But like you said, GT3 probably has more standard features.

If production is indeed ending, it is to make room for something else - and I don't mean the RS. I don't see Porsche leaving the below-$180k enthusiast market vacant. Is nobody thinking LA Auto Show debut for the GT4, with production starting in March 2015?
In the mean time, I predict everybody that wants a GT3 will get one. Porsche is in the business of maximizing profit, not optimizing resale values.

I disagree on the second point. The GT3 fiasco has been a huge stain on Porsche's reputation, and cost them millions of dollars. Even though the new engine has been thoroughly retested, if Porsche makes fewer GT3s, this limits their liability if another engine issue crops up.
Better for Porsche to make more RS models for 180k and greater profit margin as an ultimate NA halo Porsche car and GT4s with aero and a 911 engine that's been around for a few years, than risk further financial loss and bad publicity on the first generation 991 GT3 models.

I have to ask the question.. "Have Porsche ever stated a quantity of 991 GT3's they planned to build"? I am also at the end of the queue for one, and am hoping I get an allocation soon. Not sure I can wait till 2017, but then, what else is out there for £100K right??

We're screwed, wish it was like 2011 again. The whole stop sale, engine replacement thing has just screwed the whole process for everyone. I'm still holding out hope of an allocation.

Is there a market for buying someones allocation. Or what about brand new... What are people paying above msrp

The first person to post "another blown engine" and you will be able to buy all you want.

agreed.
Porsche will make as many as they can sell. It's all business.

^^ Is not that the truth.
I think there will be new 2015 allocations. I do not think, whatever their original planned allocation was, is even going to be enough to satisfy demand.
With some of the 2014s being reclassified to 2015 that is cutting it already enough.
Best case; All the dealers get the same amount of 2014s as 2015s - does that cover demand???- no way.
But - I hope they make what they originally planned
