To some degree, it could be both. The original design may have been overly sensitive to manufacturing tolerances and to avoid that going forward, a new part with less critical tolerances was developed. If we take the e-mail from Tim Quinn at face value, the new engines will have "optimized piston rod screw connections". I read that as a new piece.

Sam that is about right. The plus side for you is your car will be an early recipient of an engine. You can expect at least two to three months.
This can change if Porsche gets aggressive in replacing the engines. By that I mean they shut all other engine productions and churn out GT3 engine. However, the problem will be part availability. Much depends on what the cause of the failure is. Was it the torquing tool which can be addressed rather quickly or was it the bolt specifications which would require careful manufacturing thus delaying production.

I guess when Porsche calls us somewhere between 3.0 to 3.7 weeks, we just tell them Forget About It and hang up

I know they are outlawing full slicks but I think Hoosiers should be ok. Another RL’er already had a set of 19” Forgelines custom made for his car (and Hoosier R6 mounted). I’m hoping he and others don’t run into any problems and I’ll likely make the move later in the season once I eat through my existing R-Comp stockpile.
Yes, good luck to us all.

Not sure if you guys ever read the final report regarding the Paul Walker accident in the Carrera GT. It came out on March 25th. It indicates that the speed was a factor and they have now estimated the speed at 93 MPH when the crashed happened and at much lower speed than the earlier estimates, but the interesting part that they are also blaming in the report, the 9-year-old pair of Micheline tires for the crash without giving much details, which makes more sense than the earlier theories of why a Veteran race driver lost control and spun out. Losing tires at high speed is just deadly. Mark

Can't figure you guys out. Almost clever comments aside, what EXACTLY is your SPECIFIC suggestion? Are you saying you'd try to sell or give back (somehow, assuming that's even possible) the paid-for car sitting in your garage before even hearing what Porsche's offer is? Or do you simply consider worrying and being negative a strategy in itself?
It's a car, not my life. I do really enjoy driving it, though, so I'm willing to wait this out realizing that, at this point, the alternatives would involve a lot more hassle and financial exposure than just being patient. Although I want to know how all this is going to play out as much as anyone, I've determined that constantly complaining is unlikely to affect the result, or at least isn't worth raising my anxiety level. It's not denial, it's a conscious effort to hope for a good outcome and deal with a bad one only if it happens.
That's the way I try to look at the world, but if one of you two sages have a solid alternative real-world philosophy, please lay it out there. I'm always open to a different perspective.
