Default Back in business

Picked up car today after 5 days of torture. Nice to be back in the car after getting the thermostat replaced. I grew to appreciate the PDK in the GT3 even more after driving the loaner Cayman. The lag in shifting from 1st to 2nd was really annoying. It felt like a crapy automatic compared to the GT3.
Now that I have it back I'm crossing my fingers that I don't have one of the BBQ cars!

@SanDiegoDavid -- Did you ask your service advisor about the "BBQ cars" issue and to check whether or not your car was affected?

I have an F10 M5 DD, 991 GT3 for track. You cant compare these two cars. The 5 is lardy, 4 seats, enjoyable to drive, comfortable and a real sledgehammer of a sleeper. Not trackworthy or sharp but thats not what "it" is. Its actually annoying to drive rapidly as its weight cripples it when pushing on.

GT3 is a surgical instrument and track worthy, focussed and PDKS allows the average driver to be elevated up a few notches. New one also does well as a DD or carscoffee machine (more so than ever). Its got its faults of course.

Dang.. I had an Imola Red 2001 M5 Stick come to think of it.. Loved the car.. back when it was a V8 400hp hot rod.. But I think this baby is Next Level.. I live close to the city so don't need a 'DAILY DRIVER' perse, I'm fine with this GT3 3 days a week. Other then.. I noticed I don't like having people to close to me in traffic at long stop lights. .LOL..

Default Back in Business

I talked to my service and sales guy about the stop sale stuff, they both did not have any information for me. Basically it was, "we will let you know". I've decided not to track it this weekend to give a little more time for this issue to be hashed out. Now I see some PCCB issues, although I have not noted the clicking.

It's getting Clear Plex and window tint today/tomorrow anyway. I'll have it back to play a little this weekend.

Default Twins and Rattle Question

Got the car back from tinting (after getting it back from replacing the thermostat). I got Llumar CTX 30%. See pic of the twins. Mine is the one with the PCCBs.
Met up with Bill who's car came to San Diego on the same boat as mine. We each drove each others cars. He was worried about the PDK, wanted to make sure it's down shift from 2 to 1 was normal (it was).
His car was perfect, the main difference between the two cars was mine had PCCB.

One question: Anyone notice a rattle in the rear end? It kind of sounds like a wire hanger rubbing on something in the rear. At first I thought it was part of the increased noise of the GT3 versus a regular 991, but Bill's car had nothing like it. Feel like I need to take it back to see if they can find it and "fix" it. Such a pain!!

Looks fantastic David!

So, any noticeable brake difference between cars? Cool to be able to compare back to back.

Default Comparing Brakes

Rob,

The PCCBs had a little more stick, although we did very short drives on Harbor Drive to Barrio Logan and back. It was not really a good test of the difference. Having said that, I use to have a 997.1 Turbo with PCCBs and a 997.1 C2S without. Every time I drove the the C2S it felt like there was something wrong with the brakes. (there wasn't)

David, I am not sure if you saw this post by Aamersa on 2/14;

Many GT3s will need an engine change. Issues with the connecting rod bearing, it melts, symptom is some rattling noise.

I would take the car in immediately since you are hearing rattling noise from the engine. For now I would not drive it until it is check out.

Any chance that sound is the "clicking" sound due to the PCCB recall instead of the mystery connecting rod issue (which has only been a rumor so far)?

Seems much more likely than the "sky is falling" alarmist paranoia going around that have no basis whatsoever..... One particular individual who can afford a gt3, can't understand why anyone would do something on their own when they 'have people for that', has over 1000 posts, but can't spring for a rennlist membership.
