Just imagine this engine with a proper 6 speed gated manual and optimized gear ratios.

Sadly the only sold 2% of them with it so they canned it. Unfortunately, the market has spoken.

They did it right...no 488 lack of exhaust note issues (oh my how the ladies are crying over on F-Chat...458 owners are bashing away).

610 HP of NA goodness and probably $80k less than Huracan...not a bad deal.
So Audi is also part of the lovely VAG empire with some serious parts sharing. So why is it that the R8 Plus can tip the scales at ~3200 lbs with a 5.2L V10 packing 601 hp AND an AWD system whereas the uber track oriented RS is only ~150lbs lighter? Why didn't Audi/Lamborghini share their weight reduction plan with Porsche?!?

Just saying I like both. Own '15 GT3 and will own '16 V10+ come Nov/Dec once built. Different cars for different driving.

As you know VAG individual groups are VERY competitive. I've heard R8 design is going to Porsche in the coming years...who knows what VAG is doing. We are just the suckers buying the cars

Yeah - when the R8 design goes to Porsche it'll be interesting. The R8 when they release a GT version will be something very special.

I'd rather imagine it with Porsche's PDK-S. Naturally.

Ah, thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a long range plan to share the new chassis design with Porsche. It's a bit surprising that Porsche would be behind Lamborghini with respect to chassis materials. I've always had respect for Audi and its racing heritage. My first track car back in the day was an '01 S4 with APR stage II+ goodies. And it makes sense that the Huaracan (and previous Gallardo) are (were) built to be the sexy, hot "stripper" sister whereas the R8 is the comfortable, sweet "wife material" sister. Why does the R8 get so much attention? Because it was completely unlike everything out there when it first came out. And of course Tony Stark (Iron Man) drove a coupe and a Spyder

isnt the 3200 a DRY weight? so ~3400lb?
Anyway, the 911 is a bigger chassis to begin with.

Definitely possible. The handful of articles claim ~3200 curb weight so final figures could be higher. I guess everything will be clearer when all cars are released and magazines start testing and numbers validation.

Audi's own web site lists the current R8 with a curb weight of 3583 lbs, the R10 @ 3737, and the R10+ @ 3605.

I don't believe the new R10+ will be anywhere close to 3200 lbs.

Audi not reliable...huh? I've owned 6 in the past two years, not one problem. Zero.

Maybe you're not referring to 2016.

I like all VW product lines (Porsche, Lambo, Audi, etc)...well, except VW.
Quite funny. 6 in two years and no problems? Was the plastic even off the seats for any of them? If they are so great how come you needed 6?

My neighbor is a long time manager of the local Audi dealer, and has sold many to my partners. ALWAYS in the shop, and he admits openly they have their problems, if kept more than your 4 months/ car. VW even worse.

610 horsepower for this price range will simply be what everyone else has. All its competitors will have more by 50-100hp, and thats only this year.

Audi and VW are well known for their lack of reliability. You can believe otherwise but thats simply not factual in my world.
