What a beast!
I expected weight and pricing info in this "reveal", though.

I think they are following the protocol they used with the Z/28 - release the car well before production to gauge internet reaction and then price accordingly (the reason for the silly price of $75k on the Camaro). I hope they don't make the same mistake here...

I don't see how they could justify a $100k Z06 while the Z51 (with bucket seats) sits at $56k -- in which case the latter would probably remain the track-car bang for buck bargain between the two, especially since it's NA.

They want this car to be higher volume than the last C6 Z06. Heck, they were selling way less than a thousand units per year in the last few years of C6 Z06 production. One of the main reasons, it has a targa top (which btw is still 20% stiffer with the top removed than the C6 Z06 with the fixed roof in place) and automatic transmission.
I'm guessing they want to sell 5k+ C7 Z06 units a year. With that in mind, I believe they will price just under $80k base model ($26-28k more than the base price of the Stingray). A fully loaded C7 Z06 with the Z07 package and highest interior trim is going to just crest $100k.
The halo car, the C7 ZR1, is still a year or two out from being revealed. It will go for around $150k and will definitely move upmarket to compete in refinement, interior quietness (it will have a special acoustics package to quiet down the interor), and high technology along with a twin turbo V8 that will be shared with at least one top Cadillac halo car. The C7 ZR1 will be designed to compete favorably with the F12, the 991 Turbo S, McLaren MP4, the next gen Gallardo model, etc. for a fraction of the price. They will hope to move 1-2k units per year of that model. It will be faster than the C7 Z06 on the street and track, but still have a ton of refinement and exclusivity.
The C7 Z06 will be the track rat that can easily be a DD, but the ZR1 will be the "high-end" GT sports car ala F12 in it's mission that can get it done on the track, but will most likely be mostly a street cruiser with very high capabilities.

Yes, it is educated guess, i.e. speculation. I can't reveal a source, but I know for a fact they are in full development of a "ZR1" engine. Whether it actually goes into a "ZR1" or just a halo Cadillac model remains to be determined. I guess there is a very small possibility they will stop development on that derivative, but it is highly unlikely at this juncture.
So, if they have 90% of the goodies already developed or in development, why wouldn't they sell a halo ZR1 C7? Throw in the twin turbo V8 with 700+hp, go with some new body panels to differentiate the car, toss in the CF brakes and mag suspension standard (of course), high end leather and other interior refinements, acoustic package to quiet everything down, and sell it for $150k.
Trust me, there are MANY people who would pay $150k for a factory TWIN TURBO!! V8 Corvette with over 700hp. The other stuff to make the ZR1 a ZR1 could be fluff and people would still buy it. The Z06 already has all the goodies on it, so the engine would be the main differentiator and if GM is already making the engine, why not throw it in a ZR1? The C6 ZR1 did quite well overall for GM considering the price point. They made and will (eventually) sell around 5k units. That's not bad and certainly helped Chevrolet's reputation around the world from a halo car standpoint. No reason they don't continue it with the C7 model.
That said, it is speculation, but it makes sense....at least to me.

Looks like an ALMS race car! That thing means business.
Dark gray metallic to quiet down all the black pieces (including the butt), with black wheels. Mmm...

How was my post "WRONG"? I said I expected more weight than C7:
"No mention of any significant weight loss - makes me think this will be heavier than regular C7 (with bigger brakes, wheels/tires, supercharger, etc.), right? "

The real track bargain (as with the C6) will be an upcoming Gran Sport model that keeps the naturally aspirated dry sump Z51 motor (maybe slightly massaged) with the widebody chassis and bigger brakes of the base Z06 for a price between Z51 and base Z06 - my guess around $65k.

The C5 Z06 sold well with MSRP about the same as the C5 convertible.
The C5 Z06 was pretty much a basic C5 with upgrades to the engine, and chassis.
C6 Z06's sold very well for the first two years... then slowly declined as most of the track rats had already gotten theirs. The C6 Z06 was unique including a steep price increase, with the interior being about all that was carried over from the base. It's ability could only be really used at the track.
Wonder how sales will hold up... after the first two years with the C7 Z06...
I suspect sales will taper off. Too much car for the street.

This entire thread should be moved to the 'other marque discussions' section...
