Default Production has begun!

Enough about "delayed production" already. That's in the past. Time to start a new thread for us to trade info about where folk's orders are in the scheduling and production process, anticipated delivery dates, etc. etc. Something more positive.

So to start it off, I just received an e-mail from my service advisor that according to his tracking info, my car entered the body shop on 11/14, which is one day earlier than projected. Production has started and I'm on track for a mid January (or maybe sooner) delivery!

Congrats! But I'd be a little pissed about this:

Thank guys.

Since we're on the subject of production, I thought I'd mention that I just discovered that National Geographic is doing a repeat of their Ultimate Factories series. The one on the Porsche factory is scheduled for Thursday 11/21 @ 7am PST (on DirecTV anyway). If you haven't seen it, it's a great way to whet your appetite while you contemplate your car being built.

Thanks for the heads up on the factory series. I have seen it but it's been a while. Definitely worth seeing again.

Mike looks like we're running neck and neck, mine also entered in the paint shop Thursday 11/14 and I'm hoping to get it before the 1/10 schedule date. Also FYI from what I've seen of car assembly (limited) the car enters the body shop as a compete monocoque (body in white) and gets painted and then everything else gets bolted in and onto it, which means your car now exists (however incomplete)! Also, I noticed all dates on my schedule are Fridays which means they are not the actual day projected but rather the week projected. I believe that means that there is a lot of oppertunity to get ahead of schedule i.e.; I don't believe the cars are on the production line for a week, nor do I think It takes a week to get from completed production to Emden etc. Let's cross our fingers.

Congrats to you too, new GT3! You may be correct about the actual status of the car although the "body shop" and "paint shop" are listed as separate steps on the tracking schedule. I lost my copy of the Nat Geo Porsche factory show when my old DVR crapped out so I can't reference it to refresh my mind on the progression through the factory. I'll get to see it again when it re-airs on Thursday.

I'm sure (or at least hope) you're right about the scheduling as there seems to be a lot of slack built into the dates. Being on the West Coast, shipping will take longer, though. Where are you located? If it's somewhere else in the country (must be with an 1/10 delivery date), you'll probably win the delivery "race".

Typically, how much slack is built into the schedule and when do things firm up?
