No Slicks on 991 GT3!!

It must be really bad if they are all out saying no slicks. With the CL, they at least put their money where their mouth was and ran a CL version in the 24 hr race.
Slicks are ultra sensitive to toe changes and will blow out on you in a second. Now that I think about it, it's akin to an issue that myself along with several other 996 TT guys have had. Fine static alignment specs, but too low of a ride height on the 996 caused too much toe out under heavy loads. Slicks blew out within a day if not a session or two (Michelin, Hoosier, Yokohama). DOT slicks lasted much longer and treaded R-compounds life seemed almost normal, with a little toe tapering. Feasible RWS could cause a similar scenario and slicks blow out.

People are saying this was caused by center lock failure. Perhaps this has something to do with no slicks.

People are saying this was caused by center lock failure. Perhaps this has something to do with no slicks.

Two things which may help understand PAG's position:
1) GT3 centerlocks and hubs were recalled twice. The first was a non event, the nut was changed to eliminate the 500 NM stamp since PAG upped the torque spec.
The second was more involved and replaced hubs and other components with those used on the 997.2 RS which are more robust.
2) Owners of the .2 RS (like me) received a notice saying that hubs and bearings needed to be changed at intervals, 8,000 KM in back and 14,000 in front if driven on the track. In addition at around 25,000 KM the front uprights need to be changed. Since mine had 30,000 KMs on it, I followed the bulletin. Cost me $6,000!! Porsche's attitude is if you use it like a cup car, follow the same maintenance schedule.
Perhaps in an effort to avoid liability they've decided to ban slicks altogether.

I wouldn't run slicks anyway cause my car trailering days are over.
But if there is an issue with a subsystem, I'd like to know about it.

Whilst I accept that the reasons for such a decision are all speculation for the moment, if in fact CLs are the reason for the ban of slicks, AP and his engineers will have **** on their faces considering they have avoided CL discussion like the plague with the launch of the new car, considering that they indicated bearings had been upgraded to Cup car parts, hubs/bolts had been strengthened and that there was no CL issue...

if Nissan could engineer Godzilla to run RWS on a race car in 1992....on full slicks....then to not offer this capability 21 yrs later..suggests to me...as has been mooted in this thread...to risk/liability mitigation

but realistically a lot of people simply do not have a clear understanding to what degree they intensify load on front wheel bearings and what is a realistic life expectancy on those parts in track conditions on r-comps with close to 1g load.
and in my personal opinion those who own p-cars and still use CL system are plain crazy. all 99x race cars I see at my mechanic`s shop long time ago swapped all corners into 5 lugs.

You mean switching from center lock splined to center lock with 5 tapered lugs? Or to 5 lugs with nuts or 5 lug bolts? Or are you talking about something different?
