and in my personal opinion those who own p-cars and still use CL system are plain crazy. all 99x race cars I see at my mechanic`s shop long time ago swapped all corners into 5 lugs.
Who is your mechanic?

i find it VERY strange that all these track buys on here dont need to change wheel bearings. when i used to track 40 days a year in my 6gt3, and i am not all that fast, i can hear my wheel bearings loud and clear with my helmet on. hell, my buddy who drove with me (in different car) can here me as we enter the turns one after another. that's every 25-30 days of track (DE) usage. the bearing is DONE...

and to date, i dont hear many talking about changing wheel bearings on 7 or 6gt3's..... (i am not just talking CL, but also 5 lugs).... some of you guys are way too loose on maintenance. bearings, uprights, hubs need to be timed out, not wait to fail out....

just my 2 cents.
YMMV
i dont take chances with those stuff.

mechanic I use knows those issues and I trust his opinion.
I recently only had to swap out steering tie rods as they developed play in joints, wheel bearings are probably due next season as I got about of 45 days on them but as he inspects them there are no issues there yet.

gearbox bearing started to whine a bit, it will be an another thing to attend soon. And to do all that stuff on 997 base car is way cheaper than on a gt3 or cup, it is yet another reason why I do hesitate to part with it as all those costs do add up quite quickly. and I do not even want to think how much it will cost to get a used beaten up gt3 car from a negligent owner who was sure 'it`s just fine for track as it is' and then go over replacing half of its parts to make it operational and safe to run.

My guess is that slicks refer to non-DOT race tires.

The GT3 comes standard with DOT R-comps - Porsche is not going to say that one DOT R-comp is ok, and another isn't.

Some of you guys are real quick to turn a fly into an elephant.

really? and what r-comp exists in 20"? only size I see for pilot sport cups in 20" is 335.

997 gt3 used to come stock on sport cup tires. not anymore.

The 991 GT3 will come with either the 20" Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or the 20" Dunlop Sport Maxx Race.

100 track days, 15000 Track miles (20000 total) on my CL on trakcar 3.0 and nothing was replaced. Half of the track hours were at Sebring.

Just 1 throw out bearing 1x only and transcooler valve on all 3 RS.
4000 track miles on trakcar 3.1 ( best track RS in the country ) zero issues
4.0 7000 miles, at least 5000 track, zero issues.

call me the gentle giant instead of Shreck...
Or it's the careful maintenance and low grip RA1's. I think everything gets murdered on slicks.

Agreed. The 991 like the 997 GT3 came on R comps and to interpret the ban on slicks as extending to R comps makes no sense. Following that logic we have to shed the stock tires for ultra high perf street tires?

MPSC2 and Dunlops that both come from the factory are R comps.

And they don't make the 997 GT3 anymore so I don't see your point. Are you saying that the end of the production run didn't use MPSC's?

Slicks are not like DOT R comps. Consider the amount of negative camber needed for slicks versus a hoosier, nitto or R888. Perhaps the extra grip and more extreme camber angles stress components more. Personally I suspect this is a lawyer thing and not an engineer thing

But they can stipulate N rated tyres must be used which rules out Hoosiers and the like despite them being r-comp... It will come down to wording to maintain warranty...

Hoosiers can take a lot of camber, especially A6. So can Kumho V710. As with the grip levels, the setups overlap between slicks and semi slicks.

Occam's razor - makes no sense that VW will "ban" rcomps on the GT3, it flies the face of "fastest at all costs." strategy they have adopted so far, hell it will come with rcomps if there were any in it's size. And who cares about slicks....this is not a race car
