Technical training in the 991 GT3 emphasized NO SLICKS!
I don't know why exactly, Center Lock wheel/Hub weakness or something else but it is certainly disappointing!

 

DOT R's or real slicks? 6 pages, and no one gets out alive...

 

Did the tech training mention CL weakness as the reason specifically or is that speculation?

Will be an upset if this thread only goes 6 pages....casualties guaranteed...

 

Porsche up to their old tricks... "It's light years ahead of the old car but can't handle slicks" wtf??? 997.2 regular Carreras weren't even disallowed from running slicks to my knowledge...

ps. looking forward to the excuses that will be put forward to justify Porsche's position now... maybe its those Carrera Cup car bearings and the all new and improved CL design or the all new dry sump, motorsport engine? or is it the RWS that can't take the heat...

Maybe it should be renamed the "GT3 SC" to reflect its new soft **** ethos?....

should be similar issue to R8 and any other cars with heavily involved CPUs into management of suspension, sticker tires and stiff springs require different software.

 

compared to stock street tires traction they are slicks

 

I can understand if they exclude using a true RACE slick, Michelin, Pirelli or Hoosier R100, but not allowing DOT R's like a Hoosier A6/R6 will be a deal killer for many track junkies.

 

slicks means more G's. So my bet is on sump/lubrication on this higher reving, untested, no mezger engine. There I said it.


BTW Corvette just came out that said: "Slicks? Sure. And we'll back it up w/ a warranty."

 

I hope someone can come up with a viable reason for this. Buzz kill. Pretty bad call from Porsche imo. Kind of like PCCBs not being fit for track use.
