Nizer, the claimed weight of the Ferrari is always for a stripped down euro version not available in North America due to DOT regulations. The Stradale was almost 3200 pounds here against a claim of around 2800. Corner balance showed 3196 lbs. So, take those claims with a grain of salt!

Raced this weekend and one of the cars was a McLaren 12C GT3. It ran 1:34 on our track. Cup cars run 1:41. GT3 R (like the RSR but more power and full electronics) was 1:36. The R is faster than an RSR because it has no restrictor and comes with racing ABS, Traction control etc.

Nope, but you'll hear lots of complaining when they go sell em in 6 months - when they realize the car isn't fun - and oops there's no bid for the car...

happened to me in my 430 scud.

Looks like my next car will be a McLaren...assuming they can handle going onto the track like a GT3 can.

Salesman says I never heard of anyone buying a track car to go slower. What is the point of buying the GT3? Racer says I want my car to be a descendent of the GT3 Cup Car even if it means it will be slower.

Salesman vomits.
Slicks are faster than MP2's

not approved, but not specifically disapproved.
i ran slicks, yoko, michelin and hoosier (slick not dot R) on 996gt3 and many i know ran slicks on 7.2 and 7.1. not optimzed but didn't blow the car up or kill themselves.

it would be interesting to know why 991 cant be used with slicks. is it just a warning or something bad will happen...

We are bound to find out sooner or later. Maybe the computer/s wont like sticky tires and will go into limp mode (i.e. PASM/ABS failure). Things like this make me so happy that I picked up a 997 GT3.

Mike, they didn't specifically say in the manual that you should go and bolt them on but they were allowed. My dealer had pointed out that running slicks would NOT void warranty on the car whereas the regular cars running M96 and possibly M97 motors were not warrantied with sticky rubber... M96 cars were not even warrantied even if found to be running on R-comp rubber because of oil starvation issues.

As wanna911 pointed out, they run the RS on slicks for 24 hours themselves and placed 7th in their class beating many race cars...

Incorrect. Hoosier R6s are DOT R-compound competition tires. They are NOT racing slicks. Ask any racer who runs true slicks whether R6s are slicks or comparable.

Whether Porsche would consider R6s as "slicks" is another matter, and quite frankly, no one knows.

True; it was a std pre production car but, they did change the springs on that car to accommodate for slicks.
PASM shocks stayed though.

They had also altered the traction control to work with them. (Info provided by C. Harris)

At the time, I remember trying to find the sping rates for Mooty. I think I even called the cleaning lady in the lobby at Weissach to get them.

Ah the good old days.
