Did they give you a price to do that (install the 997 buckets instead)?

We discussed getting the seats at cost and a couple hours of paid labour. And there were no discounts otherwise on the car.

Ok, thanks. I’m considering going with the 997 buckets since it doesn’t look like the new ones will fold (meaning limited access to the rear of the car).

the GT2RS/GT3RS leather alacantara factory bucket seats will set you back close to $10,000
installed and that is no special deal. La Dismantlers has a new set and used sets are $8K not shipped.

Dammitt...........factory installed for authenticity & originality is the right approach.

I think that schematic is the new seat. The folding buckets will soon be history.

Those seats fit quite nicely. I know two people who put the 997 GT2 seats in their 991 and love them. None of them have bothered to code out the airbag warning though.

Is it just a matter of coding out a warning or is it that the airbags in the 997 sport buckets actually don't work properly in a 991?

Pretty sure the thorax airbags will not work. But there are no airbags in any of the alternative/aftermarket seats either, and I think the 997 buckets are the perfect balance for mixed track/street use (and the carbon/leather/detail is much nicer than anything else out there). Clearing the warning is easy – I run a Recaro seat now in a 997 that came with *** seats with no issues.

Interesting, 997TTMeteor. If that's true, I guess I'm a little surprised that a Porsche dealer would be willing to essentially disable the airbag feature on a Porsche seat that they installed. Maybe some kind of legal waiver would be involved to take care of possible liability issues. I agree completely that those seats are otherwise perfect for the car.

That's correct, the thorax airbag will not work. As for the dealership and liability, they basically said they'd do it, but its not a warrantable item afterwards.
