I am shaking my head at the whole stupid thing. Centerlocks x100, but as you say, with added unnecessary complication on track...and yet another electromechanical point of failure.

Yup. He had one shot for a BS moment and he played it that day.
I will definetely give him another shot though. I like the guy.
Besides, this is more important.
Remember, here in Rennlist (Doug's the pioneer) we figured out first how to ditch the CLs. Not sure we can pull a simillar stunt on the steering if it sucks (like the 991 one does f.e.)

Well - finally we have it!
Talk about a comprehensive make over. Reading the official press release makes this sound like a totally new car! No stone remains upturned!
Some positive surprises were the 475 bhp, PTV (standard), wider body, visual styling, forged wheels, lighter componentry, 4WS, 0-100 time (better than I expected)
Other points to note is that there is significant work to improve the PDK so that its probably unlike any weve experienced to date. Also steering software/firmware has revision to address previous criticism and improve feel. Lastly there is mention of the Centre Locks being revised. Hopefully that will address the 997.2 GT3 guys....
Overall I think if you look at this as a package and give Porsche the benefit of the doubt at this stage on the 4WS, Improved steering settings and CL wheel locks then you have to say they have achieved something remarkable.
The only dissapointments for me were the weight. I expected 50-80lb savings (25-35kg). There is conflicting data here. Given the increased size of body in white and PDK I knew this would be hard to achieve so it looks like they have saved 70kg and added back in 100kg.
Andreas. Remember the ring time is quoted in the press release as under 7.30 for the Ring. I know this is your favorite subject but it may be too early to compare apples with apples......

But you're missing the bigger picture VR! You'll be the fastest to park at cars and coffee with four wheel steer!! Is this not what its all going to be about soon?

The press release specifically mentions dry sump with an external oil tank....
As the designated sports car for the race track, a dry sump oil supply continues to be used for the 911 GT3. This meant that the oil pan had to be entirely re-developed. Just like the base engine, the high-performance engine is equipped with four suction points in the cylinder heads, an extraction in the oil pan, and an oil pressure pump. The engine of the 911 GT3 has two additional suction points in the oil pan at the front and rear, so as to be able to safely transfer oil to a separate oil tank during heavy acceleration and braking phases.
