WTB/FS: 991.2 Touring GT3
#166
not sure if this is where this post belongs as i'm pretty new here
i've been looking for a 991 touring for a long time and came to this board bc i saw jab12 on some auctions and i believe he mentioned RL
i just found the car i want. '19 with pccb's, very low miles, and an extensive build.
it was expensive but i'm tired of chasing bat cars with the 7500 vig and delivery fees.
been lurking here and at the auctions for a long time.
it's amazing how much you can learn!

I'm all for people making a profit, and I know the market will always dictate value, but does this happen often?
I could see if a 'well respected group' purchased a car from a private party, gave it a mechanical look over, a detail, and then sold it for a profit with their name/reputation as a backing. You could argue there is value in that. But if this car was a) from a dealer and b) a CPO, then what exactly is Merrit doing here to warrant a quick $30k increase? If there answer is simply "its a rare car, they got to it first, and now they can dictate their asking price" then okay. If they think they identified a quick arbitrage, so be it. I'm just curious if this is common.

I hope not. I’d rather all GT3s go back to being enthusiast cars that follow somewhat normal depreciation curves. I want a low profile GT car, not a collectible.

My personal perspective of an enthusiast owner and car fanatic since my very young age, probably why I studied automotive engineering and being in the field for over 20 years:
1) I will live the price debate about speculation or not to others. I have no crystal ball but learned a few things over the years
2) GT cars have a special formula that delivered racing performance on in a street legal car. Up to the owner to drive it the way he wants. For me personally, if you buy a GT car and don’t experience driving it on a track, you are missing some of its magic
3) I am not at a point where I can collect cars and keep it in showroom condition. I drive it, enjoy it as much as I can, care and maintain it so it can be used for many years to go. I live once.
4) Very few cars can be a profitable long term investment, usually hitting high valuations minimum 25 years after, most of it 50 to 75 years. By that time, I will be already old or not there anymore, might be my kids enjoying the potential profits.
5) What makes a car goes up in value:
A great design, A mixed of technological or/and performance features of it times, The rarity of it (number produced, number available on market),A racing pedigree, Potential famous celebrities owning it, A combination of color and options when configured… a blend of something special that makes it desirable for you and others enthusiasts
I had few cars over the years and the 991.2 GT3 Touring is giving me something I am always looking forward to: to look, to drive, to enjoy, to appreciate. I will put miles on it and hopefully a lot, meaning I will have enjoyed it.
Looking back at the few cars I got, the Opel Speedster and Lotus Exige I still have (2002 and 2008) are one of the few cars that bring me the same pleasure and desire than my GT3T. Price used to be high, dropped a lot in the 2010 to 2017 years, for the past 7 years, price are keep going up including high mileage cars. Why? Just a mix of what I described in point 5.
I do love GT3 with or without wing, if I could, I would love to have all including 997, 991 and 992 versions 😄. In the meantime, I am fortunate enough owning one and the Touring is the one. No PTS, no LWB, not Cxx, it was just out of my budget at the time I could get one, despite the pleasure of driving it and enjoying it is still 200%. Few upgrades and mods I am doing over time to make it even more special to me.
Enjoy spirit drivers

Buy it now then...and yes don't worry about the depreciation hit because there isn't any. The appreciation will outweight any miles you put on the car. Life is way too short to have a OG Touring in the garage and not drive it. I'm at 29.7k miles and counting.

You will never not get (double negative sorry) what you paid for a touring , even if you put on 10k miles per year. I don't think you can't depreciate a touring with miles faster than it will appreciate in $$ as long as you hold onto it for a couple of years.
Having driven mine 8k miles in 27 months I'm still "ahead". Free memories. At this point, I don't think anyone is buying an OG Touring and daily driving it...Chris Harris maybe but he bought his moons ago. he probably drives his the most out of anyone I've heard about. He's gotta have over 60k miles at this point. He is WINNING!
