$174k - Chalk .2 w/ LWBS, FAL, Dundon Header/Exhaust package, control arms, cage, Dundon wing and essentially perfect for us track rats buuuut that vinyl wrap. Connected with a friend of the owner and was told that it was tracked hard (obviously) and that the wrap is newly done, guessing the paint isn't in great condition.

I was tempted by that car but got an incredible deal on a 30k mile 2015 G6 (8k mi on engine) under $130k locally with LWBS, FAL, PDLS and dealer extended warranty so I snagged it.

this car is local to me and I put eyes on it, track rat would be a good description it’s pretty rough around the edges

I am helping my Dad get into his first p car as he caught the bug from me. His 70 years young and better now than ever! He’s deciding between a 997TT and the 991.2 GT3. He wants 500bhp and a manual.

Is it reasonable to find a decent used manual 991.2 GT3 for $175k?

I’m going by this and BaT auction results around the same mark

based on my own searching it seems challenging to find a good clean manual in that price point. If you do it’s typically a non desirable color, high mileage or track rat, base car with no buckets or a storied car. Case in point take a look at the Carfax for the one you posted, that car has been sitting for a very long time

If you're patient and have your trigger finger ready and out maneuver the dealer/broker bots.

Odds are better from a private party, stay up with this thread, pcar market and the pca classifieds.

Buying options open up significantly for PDK. Has he tried one of those yet? Not to get into a religious discussion but it may be worth the time.

At the current point in the market, it doesn’t seem so. Things may change at any moment but I agree that at this budget, most cars are tracked out, have higher mileage, and/or low option builds. There can be outliers with some questionable history (I.e. accident, engine replacement, etc.) If that’s ok with you then go for it!

This Michigan car is a bad example as I believe it’s been in a severe accident.

He’s pretty firm on manual and appreciate the ‘real’ advice here. Don’t want to spend a bunch of $ just to be disappointed or have more headaches.

how to think about mileage on these cars? With 997TT I routinely see people buying 80-100k miles as long as you buy the seller and the maintenance. Any reason to avoid high miles as long as the car has been maintained?

I wouldn't worry about the mileage. However, I've only ever seen one 991 GT3 over 100k miles for sale in the last 4 years. Usually don't see many over 50k, wouldn't stop me though if it checks out and is the right one.
