Does it not strike anyone as odd that there are close to 100 991.2 GT3's on the market sitting at around 200k not selling yet BaT sales are hitting those numbers? As per above, maybe more dealers trying to ratchet up the comps? We know what happens when there is more supply than demand.

My take, @ChrisF , is more related to the trust that bidders may have when dealing directly with the original owner via BaT.
If you look at the comments for that auction, despite the fact that the car looked pristine from the get go, people were still hounding the seller (who is the original owner) for DME reports, some bidders paid a visit to the seller, etc.
Buyers who are fanatics like us, do seem to put a premium on a car that is really clean, where everything is fully documented and for which there is virtually no risk of having a surprise down the road. What do you think? Makes some sense?

I'm sure there are dealers/brokers/flippers bidding up to try to set the market, but buyers often get caught up in the auction and pay more than they were willing to pay for a regular used car sale.

Bingo, most private buyers have sales tax due on the purchase and dealers dont - at those dollar amounts it leaves them a margin alone in the sales tax.

I wonder if some of those bidders were shills, and/or friends of the listing dealer? Knowing the reserve on the car they could bid like “drunken sailors” knowing that they would never reach the reserve, In the meantime the listing dealer could catch an unsuspecting fish?

One word. Alcohol.
When I got a VIP pass to a Barrett-Jackson auction they of course included a punch card for the bar. I don't drink so I gave the card away but I can confidently say the workers there weren't exactly encouraging sobriety during the auctions.

A C8 popped up on BaT and someone put in a starting bid of $125k. It was so obviously a shill and the auction was quickly taken down.
