That was $86M back in 2012. God only knows what it would be today.

Rumor of a different one in a private sale to Dmitry Rybolovlev for $186M in 2014.

And neither of those are the darker works (more preferred in my mind) which would most certainly fetch a higher bid.

Interesting story ...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Rothko

Ummm..... now... I like design and art. Now, what is really the appeal and real talent here?? Just abstract boxes. Can someone actually discuss a piece and have more than 5 words to say??

Before a distracted teenager ending my riding career a few years back, I always owned 2-4 motorcycles at all times, including everything from sumos to track bikes to BMW tourers. After buying and selling for years and having some regrets, I realized that there was a very simple rule to ensure my moto happiness. Keep the bike that you keep grabbing the keys to and sell the one you don't. Don't try to rationalize your buy/sell decisions, don't turn it into a pro/con list, don't focus on aesthetics, and don't get hung up on sunk costs. I decided that the minute that I stopped grabbing the keys to a bike, it was gone. I never had any regrets after that and I had a lot more fun riding.

It's a little more expensive to apply that philosophy to cars, but I think it still works.

I need to find that nirvana car. Can't keep on falling in love with the latest and greatest, especially with the ADM stuff going on. But I can't spend 600k on a car. Maybe it's time to find a decent air-cooled toy.

Haha, I'm ok with smelly. Two of my favorite foods are durian and stinky tofu.

SHORT STORY :FUNNY HYPOCRITE SITUATION
Jaydip Kansara
In a small town in America, a person decided to open up his bar
business, which was right opposite to a church. The church & its
congregation started a campaign to block the bar from opening with
petitions and prayed daily against his business.

Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to
open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the bar and it was
burnt to the ground. The church folk were rather smug in their outlook
after that, till The bar owner sued the church authorities for
$2million on the grounds that the church through its congregation &
prayers was ultimately responsible For the demise of his bar shop,
either through direct or indirect actions or means.

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all
responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons to
the bar shop’s demise. In support of their claim they referred to the
Benson study at Harvard that inter-cessionary prayer had no impact !

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the
paperwork and at the hearing and commented:

"I don’t know how I am going to decide this case, but it appears from
the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an entire church and its devotees that does not."

Art is in the eye of the beholder. I collect stuff that hits me emotionally in some way. I am with the Whale, I like the darker ones. Mark said it’s emotions stacked on top of emotions. It hits me like that. You’re welcome.

Its so close! Well, at least this part. Sourcing a 993 motor/trans to do a 3.9-4L build on it. But I want to drive the thing while those bits are in process.
