If I was asked to place a bet on the dominant language in 50 years time I would have an each way bet on English and Mandarin.

The WAG of 3,440 GT3s seems high especially in light of CamsPorsche's data.

English has too much current momentum to be displaced now.

And in this nuclear era, there won’t be any significant redrawing of maps or government control in contrast to the late 19th and early 20th century, when America and the British Empire staked claim to territory and businesses that relegated French permanently to the background.

There are, however, clear signs of decline in the US and the UK. Perhaps these are offset by the emergence of India, but more and more people are going to find it useful to be able to speak Mandarin. Maybe it is enough - 50 years is a long time.

China is currently doing a lot of things well to become a major player in the business world. It’s certainly possible that America/UK may become somewhat less dominant in 50 years than they are currently, but it would take another world war, major map redrawing, and complete internet overhaul for another language to become lingua Franca.

Besides no one wants to learn Mandarin. Very painful to master that language. Lingua Franca will remain English.

read a book.

English has been the clear overall Lingua Franca of diplomacy/science/medicine/business/cinema for 100 years, and business/science Lingua Franca for 150 years.

By the way, fxz what county are you from?

French was the diplomacy language and if I know them well, in the lights of brexit, they will find a way to take over as first European union once again with german in parallel as the business one

unless brits make a turn around indeed...
