Does anyone have a engine failure that occurred with high miles ( > 18 k ) ? Just wondering if the DLC coating related failures occur early on or it can show up even with high miles. I am pushing 27 k miles on my 15 GT3 G engine and it’s been solid so far.
I thought I saw someone with a car in the low 20's post that their engine went a month or 2 ago. I'm pushing 18K on my 2015 car with 9 track days since I bought it last year (used with 12K miles). Seems to me like we're hearing less and less about people getting new motors. You've tracked your car right? (based on your Avatar). My feeling is cars that get into the upper teens+ miles wise that have not been tracked and then are tracked may be the last ones we see go. Rob or one of the other COG guys might know more.
Interesting to see what Porsche will do regarding this issue.
I'm two for two regarding engine failures...I have a 2005 Carrera S that encountered an IMS failure as well!
Maybe....its time to switch brands.
Stick with it, every maker screws up every now and then. Porsche got caught on this one and did right, 10 year engine warranty. Would I hold on to the car without a fix or a 991.2 GT3 engine in it past 2025.....
Pretty simple to pull the valve covers and see if there's wear, but many dealers don't do it... Push for it
Porsche confirmed engine replacement is in order! I've attached pics that show the actual issue. First pic shows head, camshafts and valves for cylinders 4-6. Second pic shows closeup of material being worn off the valve lift leavers. Amazing...this little bit of material can cause the issues it does! Third pic shows engine type; F-series from 2015 GT3.
