I'll answer. I've had my '20 Civic Type R for a year now and 10k miles.
It feels like an event each time I drive it. It feels like driving a race car to work. The seats are great, albeit slightly less easy to get into compared to most cars. Not bad, though Very supportive.
The engine.... IMHO, not the best part of the car. It's great and all, but getting 300 hp out of 2.0L means not much torque until it gets some rpms. Has a buzzy quality. Almost reminds me of my E30 M3 in a way.
But... that suspension. Holy smokes. It turns like no other car I've driven (and I've had a few great cars... Cayman R, E36 M3, E30 M3, etc.) It shines in the turns.
Brakes are great, too. Very firm pedal. Floating rotors. Shifter has VERY short throw and it's very fun. Notchy, but in a good way.
The looks are growing on me. My wife was driving it behind me, and it looks menacing in my rear view mirror.
I say... "buy one". I could sell it for more than I paid for it a year ago.

As weird as it may sound, I prefer the Civic Type R over the Focus RS and the M2 competition 6-speed that I had in this category. FWD is not great for 1st & 2nd gear straight line acceleration (going to run 18” Michelin PS4S for ride comfort and should improve traction too). Handling is quite amazing, build quality is great, shifter is incredible (maybe a notch below GT3), the combination just works! Looks has also grown on me.

I really need to give the Type R a try.
I had a loaner 2021 civic while my 09 civic was getting the ac compressor replaced recently. I was really impressed with it: good chassis, quiet, great stereo, soaks up bumps well, handled the twisty roads well too, although a bit floaty. The CVT was very smooth. I can imagine with the Type R treatment and suspension it would be a hoot to drive. I agree though the looks of the type R are a bit much. Maybe if i saw an all black one with a wing delete it wouldn't be so bad.
im trying to decide if i should replace my f80 m3 6spd with an lc500 for 30k difference.. because v8 noises and it looks amazing inside and out
or if i should upgrade my beater civic to a type r for a 30k difference. ( the car i'm in 90% of the time )
hmmm

Put 18x9.5 TE37SL wheels and Yokohama A052 tires on for the few good summer months. The added sidewall height of this setup rides much better than stock 20s. The A052s are sticky!

I have had the Civic Type R a little over 2 months and have put ~4000 miles on it. I’m sure there’s still a bit of honeymoon effect. I really like the car!
To my own surprise, I prefer the Civic Type R over a Focus RS and a M2 competition that I had.
Honda got the combination working very well. Practical, fun, and handles amazingly. I found the Focus RS to ride too harsh for my use and I couldn’t get the shift feel that I enjoy. The head gasket issue pushed me over the edge. The M2C has an amazing engine but I didn’t feel as connected to the car. I don’t quite know why.

I sold it when she passed away but sometimes wished I had kept it. Was really fun.

My wife had a 2019 or 2018 Civic Si. I have never experienced a car that fun for 20,000 bucks. The shifting was amazing, zero torque steer, good seats, great handling, noticeable different suspension modes.

I did not expect this much fan fare on Rennlist about the Civic. I guess I'll have to test drive one!

I have a question for the members on here that have a new RS6 Avant. How's the 8 speed auto trans? I know it's not a double clutch so I don't expect it to perform like a PDK, but how is it in RS mode when you roll through the gears using the paddles in the manual setting? Have an appointment to order a 2022 for this Saturday and was curious. Thanks in advance.
