Is 488 twice as good as a GT3? That is the question.

Ive only driven the 458, not the 488. But, my 991.2 GT3 is, in my humble opinion, a better car in every way over the 458. Subject to driving the 488, I still think my gt3 is better than the 488. My opinion is based on track driving solely. I drive some on the road, but small fraction.

The speciale is the one that I'd love to compare to the gt3.....

Wow. I read the first of those threads. 488 as of 7/18 are still going for that much over sticker I think this is an interesting discussion though, eg how good the Porsche GT cars are relative to a supercar that costs twice as much. I'm curious too about the reliability/ownership experience of modern F cars.

i have nothing to prove and I don’t care how many mods you have on your car. I will not engage these people on the freeway or on the streets.

this is one of the bad things about owning a ferrari
Agree, I use to be tempted in my younger days to engage those folks . but, I have thankfully learned that sort of driving should be left to the trace track. And I frankly dont care about beating a camaro, mustang, hellcat or tesla red light to red light.......no skill involved in any of those "contests" and the risk is too great

from a pure dollar value standpoint no. The 488
is not twice as good as a GT3. But I don’t see 488 owners pinching pennies trying to justify their purchase. I would argue for 488 owners, it’s not an either or thing. Meaning I get the 488 or I get the GT3. Likely they have the means to do both.

And please don’t turn this into a 488 vs GT3 argument. As an owner of both I find these comparisons silly as I have equal affection for both Porsche and Ferrari.

too many discussions today are too polarizing for no reason whatsoever. I know some will want to say 488 sucks, GT3 is better. Or vice versatility. The rational ones will appreciate both cars for what they are.

Guess it depends on GTB vs. Spider and perhaps you're only comparing brand new.
But one thing for sure, 488 depreciate substantially vs. GT3's.
For instance, this '16 488 GTB I was looking at buying was at $260K with less then 1,000 miles on it.
MSRP was $286K so $26K below sticker.

Huh?

Why does the 488 have to be “twice as good” as the GT3?

That seems like an odd way to judge what is intrinsically an emotional decision.

Is a Patek a 1000x times better than a Grand Seiko? Who knows but the person who buys a Patek minute repeater does not ask the question if the watch she is buying is X times better than another brand.

Here's a '16 GT3 RS with similar miles as the 488 GTB that sold for $211,000 in less than 4 days...

Porsche GT cars hold value better than 488s. Who cares. Park your money in a long term cd and you will get the best return.

Exactly.

A steel Rolex Daytona will probably hold its value better than a Lange Pertpetual, but at the end of the day I’d rather have the Lange and invest my money in bitcoins.

Love the fact that you are a watch guy.

I’m a patek man my self. Have a 5524, 5522, 5905 and a 5968 on order. Arriving in a few months. Sold all my APs, rolexes and everything else. Just love me my Patek’s.

Its highly disappointing. So, from a guy that “has something to prove”, I hate it when you run across some lame in a Ferrari/Mclaren/ Lamborghini that drives it like it’s a f***ing faberge egg, or worse- a minivan.
I completely understand the Faberge egg point... it made me chuckle.

It is one reason I am considering selling the 2RS. I worry when I park it on the street. I worry about curbing the magnesium wheels. Living in Central London, I have to garage it a 10min drive from where I live, which also takes away from the enjoyment.

My touring on the other hand, I will park on the street and use daily. It doesn’t give me pit stains and sweaty palms like the GT2 does though.

”She”... a woman you know has purchased a Patek minute repeater... that woman has taste!

I will say one thing on this topic of rennlist vs Fchat. Maybe cause I’ve been active on fchat longer, the responses there seem to be more helpful where’s there seem to be more members here who are just snarky. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s just my perception, but just more threads here tend to end up as a s-show.

this is not to take away from many great and helpful and knowleagbe members here. But overall, more arguments and fights here on rennlist than fchat
from my experience. YMMV.
