Are all these shots on film? No digital? No filters?

Absolutely classic.

Yup!
Except for a few digisnaps for technical stuff, these are all film.
No filters.

Most, from this Cosina-made Voigtlander Bessa R3A, with a f1.4 40mm Nokton S.C, on Kodak Portra 400 or Ektar 100:

Sometimes the luminosity is just great...
Here's a recent trip to see a friend who was re-selling my old S800.

Cold, misty morning in the mountains.

It had rained overnight.

Empty midday Wangan run to Yokohama.

Two of the five or so Honda S on the day, including my old coupe.
While I do not miss the rough ride and no AC, a modular crank, solid-rods, one carb per cylinder and 10,000 rpm was always good fun!

RESPECT! Sometimes, I too miss my old S800, a jewel of a RHD red coupe.

To bring back memories then, and though xmas isn't a holiday in Japan, to provide a viewing distraction...

The S sounds best with straight rear pipes, and just the center muffler box.
I think the rear silencers were an option.

Out testing the H4s, over the dim sealed beams previously fitted.

Touge hunting!

Borrowing my local shop's carb flow meter to sync those four Keihin.

Fuji Speedway, classic car event.
Nothing quite like a 911 2L S passing an S800, both on full throttle with the 911 grabbing another gear as they flew past pit lane!

While my S saw 11,000 on a few occasions, the Honda Racing Tach redlines at 12,000.

Visiting the factory where the S were made, and running the Motegi Twin Ring with another 100 S was pretty special.

Size comparo with a Rubber Dingy.

Quick trip to Shinjuku konbeni.

Early morning photo op at the 1964 Yoyogi Olympics Stadium on the way to work.

The power bulge on the 800, over the flat hood 600, is pretty neat.

Local shopping street.

V-TEC and Pre-TEC!

SA breakfast companions.

As in period, the S is still raced.
Here, with S800 and S600 engined T360 trucks.
The T-series is mid-engined, so on wide slicks it makes for a great open category track day weapon.

You know a serious S, when the power bulge has a power bulge.
I think this was one of the factory European Endurance Racing entries from the 1960s.

A common misconception is the Honda S uses a 'motorcycle' engine, whereas in reality it is derived from the F1 engines Soichiro and his team developed in the 1960s.
His biography goes into the details, and the twin overhead cam NA engine includes sub-mm tolerances, and even these days with near 100bhp / L, a specific output rarely matched - I think the numbers are about the same as my 3.4L MFI Cayman S - with the S800 on carbs...

Pre-Covid I used to take the day off, and drive into the mountains for a quiet tonkatsu lunch by myself.

Rat S with rat Hond shop.

Enjoy the time off, and Cayman S content to resume shortly!

Normal service is resumed again...

With the Tokyo Bayside Classic Cup on at Sodegaura, we got up early on a cold December morning, and took off into the mountain mists.

Heated seats warming in my street waiting for the C4-equipped friend from down the coast.

Nothing like the sound of an air-cooled flat six burbling along.

Breakfast stop with others out for their early morning touge run.

Car parking at Sodegaura.

Three cylinders, air-cooled, rear engined Suzuki.
I always like the lightened mirrors on the Fronte.

Mistral Spyder, which would have been nice to hear running...

Gotta ask re. plate "17-69" in the latest photos posting: what are the thoughts in Japan about the Fiata?

Respect!
The Mazda Roadster and the Fiat Spider are sports cars, and interesting.
Not sure if that's what you're asking, but I do know the Western disdain for some machines isn't typically found in Japan...

The 124 is great but unfortunately not enough sales in the US and they're discontinuing them. There's a lot more interest in the Miata though given its history and following from the very beginning, but the new 124 is the sexier car IMHO.

Here's a pic of my '79 that I had a few years ago. Getting up to freeway speeds with 80 hp was always an event.

I considered getting a new Abarth 124 but really wanted an NA motor, hence the ND2. Took some pics today with the rain after installing lowering springs.

Wow!
Some great pics there...
The 124 in either new or old form is pretty neat.
I like the rallye 124; orange with over fenders and black hood - gorgeous!

I've never owned an Italian, but did convert a few 124 Spider to RHD and enjoyed their style.
I think though a red Tipo 33 Alfa would be my choice, or perhaps a back 308 Dino?

Some more parking lot pics from the recent TBCC at Sodegaura:

Fellow Rennlister's Kouki C2.

Diverse crowd of race enthusiasts.

Rare in any space, the luxury version of Hillman's rear-engined Imp, a Sunbeam Stiletto.

A bouncy ride for sure, a Sunitora (Sunny Truck), a wildly popular kyusha despite it's utilitarian roots.

Alfa and Colt from similar years?

Beat!

Some track participants from the TBCC...

S800 on slide carbs; there's nothing quite like the sound!
Like the classic saying; fuel injection gives an engine what it needs, carbs give an engine what it wants...
These guys sucking away, leave no doubt.

Seven with new sticky Advan.

One of the T360s with their bigger S-series, mid engined twin-cams.

With a Stiletto in the car park, it was great to see an Imp on the track battling with the Mini.

Pre-war Jaguar, still branded a 'SS".

Fighting the moles in our lawn, I laughed at the Mogura House sticker.

Roadster = Joy Fast?

Rare to see Mitsubishi of any type these days, but even more so on the track.
This one looked the part.

(Camera: Bessa R3A. Film: Kodak Portra 400.)

Default Daikoku Futo

With the new year dawning, we took a drive to Daikoku Futo Parking Area (PA).

Morning coffee off the touge with local farmers.
Typically, we were passed by numerous other machines out for an early Sunday morning blast - a Boxster, a 991, and a Lotus of some sort.

Still blue skies and a clear Wangan.
Perfect!

White Shinagawa gang; Cayman S, GT3 RS, and 911T.

Setting the tone for the day, many Porsche in attendance.

This was a repatriated Fairlady Z in full nut-and-bolt restored condition, with Porsche Heritage Program 50 Targa behind.

Trio of Skylines interrupted by a Countach.

This TVR passed us on full throttle down the Wangan into Yokohama, and there's nothing quite like the rasp of a TVR for some reason!

More to follow when I process...

I’m guessing you don’t drop off your film at the local store for developing. You do all that processing yourself? Is it getting harder to find real film?

Keep the pics coming please! This might be my favorite thread on the interwebs right now.

Thanks, and I do just that - in Japan DPE (development, processing, and enlargement) turn film around to CD in an hour or less.
Some used to be advertised as DPE50, then another chain became DPE45...I was waiting for DPE30, but it never happened.

We can buy film from a variety of shops, DPE labs, and of course on-line.
The range has reduced, and the price has gone up, so not all is rosy.
But, its still very much alive!

Merging two items above, Le Volant auto book publishers have released an updated edition of their 100 Drives with Views, and it includes the Fiat:

It's got some great stuff in it, not just touge of course, but also some glorious wangan routes.
Put this magazine on your wish list if you're looking for inspirational drives, because it is great!

Hopefully, like Toyota's GT86 touge list too, we'll get the Cayman out onto as many as possible...

Default New Year

Over the first three days of the new year, people generally visit a shrine to give thanks, and to pray for the coming year.
You can also buy a talisman for your kamidana if needed.

Due to Covid-19, and as typically millions of people visit some of the major shrines, the government suggested the numbers be kept low.

So, instead of our usual visit to a crowded local shrine for a lunch of baked potatoes, grilled salted fish, steak, squid on a stick, and beer and cotton candy, we went exploring on a clear, calm, but cold day.
This full stone kura is rare in our area, and had likely lost part of its roof in the 2019 typhoons.

This store had on display a number of Showa-era devices; TVs, radios, and here a set of shave-ice machines.

Nearby, a collector was amassing a few AE86, Eunos Roadster, Mitsubishi, and here, two Subaru Alcyone.

One of the Sigma in the weeds.

There were a few cars parked at a small mountain shrine in one area, so we donned our masks and ventured out.
This minty 1952 or so Typ-1 even had its jack point rubber plugs installed, and appeared to have come all the way from Narita.

On the climb to the top there were only a few other people, and for a short while were able to enjoy the view of Fuji-san alone.

With all shops closed over the new year weekend, we took a number of drives off into the mountains, and did some more exploring.

This roadside stop had long-closed...
