Default Got it!

Well, finally got my 981. Picked it up on Friday with 40 miles on the clock and drove it 500 miles yesterday

I'll post more pics later (sorry for the poor quality), but, for now...

Beautiful! I was at Hennessy Alpharetta Thursday and they had a white/red 981S that was drool-worthy. Amazingly, they also had a 981 for $51,000! First 6-speed I've ever seen. Somebody probably got fired for forgetting to check the PDK box.

NoGaBiker... I can't believe the dealer had a car with so few options. Someone musta ordered it that way and then bailed on the purchase...lol

Actually, the 981 at Hennessy was the one that turned me on the red interior. Wanted the GT Silver, but, settled for the "cheaper" Platinum Silver.

Congrats! Personally, I think platinum silver (slightly more earthy tone) looks better than GT silver. I did a side by side comparo with my buddy's 981 and came to that conclusion.

Fantastic color combination. The red top is very sharp. Enjoy!

Earthy is a great descriptor. Didn't realize it until I got to see them side by side as well. I guess my interest was coming more from having had the Arctic Silver on my C4S. The really interesting thing is how much darker the Platinum Silver wheels are in comparison to the Platinum Silver car...

On a separate note, has anyone found a R-compound tire that fits these cars? I can't seem to find one in either 19 or 20...

If you can fit 18" wheels, do it and go for the NT01 tires. Theee best.

The wheels are actually the Platinum factory option color. I really like the color as it sets off the wheels from the car.

congrates....beautiful car and great color combo. After 500 miles do you notice the dreaded numb steering or is that really not noticeable in everyday driving???

Probably my only complaint. Didn't realize how good it really was until I drove the electric steering car. Simply put, very little road feel is transmitted through the wheel. I don't care what others say.

Other than that, though, awesome car

I agree, it is an incredible car and IMHO the best current Porsche offering until the 917 is introduced.

I can't wait to see some more pics of our combo, it looks stunning.

I've read this observation in many magazine reviews and on various forums, but I have to admit that I find it puzzling especially when a term like "electric steering" is used. That term would clearly indicate that you believe the 981 has a steering by wire setup.
The steering system in the 981 and 987 are identical with the exception of how power steering is supplied. In the 981 the hydraulic pump is replaced by an electric motor. So there is no longer a power steering pump connected to the crankshaft in a 981. Other than that the steering shaft is connected into a steering rack that goes out to ball joints and knuckles in both the 987 and 981.
