Default Is there a Euro version of Jeff.?

I have just bought my first Porsche 968, but being located in Europe (Denmark) unfortunately I can not benefit from Jeff's amazing knowledge about our cars..

So does anyone know af someone here in Europe who has the same knowledge and ability to extract all sorts of interesting information from the VIN like Jeff.?

Mine is first registered in '94, but from the VIN she appears to be a '92 model. She has LSD, no sunroof and no badge/model number on the rear. So I am just curious to learn more about her and see if she is a rarity or has many twins..

Thanks - Alex.

I think Jeff is one of a kind, in many ways! He is 1 of 1.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the kind words. You are going to want to pick up this book:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-968-...7UGweZ_QVHIjCw

Very informative even though it is in German. I met the author and conversed with him a few times and he is great. If you can find him I'm sure he could impart much knowledge. If you haven't visited our website you can find much info there as well.

Thanks
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, I will get that book right away and start educating myself on everything 968. That will also be a great incentive to use my german language skills again.. :-)

Does the author resides in Germany, it sure would be great to meet him in person.! Since the Porsche factory finally have realized the growing popularity of the transaxle cars and decided to pay tribute to them with a special 40 year anniversary exhibition over the summer, a trip to Stuttgart is first on my list of places to visit. Maybe combined with a trip to Classic Le Mans to salivate over all the über cool 60'-70' and 80's race cars. So I might meet some transaxle cars gurus that I can learn from too.. :-)

Out of curiousity Jeff, where do you obtain the VIN information from, and could you possibly do the same for Euro cars.? Or could someone here gain access to that information in the same way you do it for NA cars.?

I sure enjoy all your very interesting and informative posts..

Alex.

Alex, I tracked 968s for years to understand the VIN assignments. I had over 800 "spotted" 968s before I had it figured out. Then it took 3+ years to add in all the data to produce my databases. Although I see euro 968s on occasion I don't have access to all the tools I have here to figure out the ROW cars. Not to mention, there are 8,000 of them!

Yes, Peter lives in Germany. The book is fantastic.

Believe it or not, Jurgen Barth used to have this job at the Porsche factory. I have long ago lost the contact info but it shouldn't be hard to find. If Jurgen no longer does it surely somebody does.
But, If I were in Europe my source would be ……JEFF….. right here or via PCA Registry.
Sorry, Jeff, wherever you are.
Uh Oh, oooops, I forgot, Euro Vins. Sorry!

Thanks for the tip on the 968 book Jeff, I just received it today and its like the bible of 968.! So much cool and interesting facts and information about our cars..

Besides the non-sunroof, LSD and no 968 badge, I also realized that my car has the full leather option, colored in rear spoiler and also the 10-speaker options. It really makes me curious about if my car has any identical twins or is a 1 of 1..

How does this book compare?
Original Porsche 924/944/968: The Guide to All Models 1975-95 Including Turbos and Limited Edition (Original Series): Peter Morgan, Simon Clay, Dieter Rebmann: 0635857000790: Amazon.com: Books Original Porsche 924/944/968: The Guide to All Models 1975-95 Including Turbos and Limited Edition (Original Series): Peter Morgan, Simon Clay, Dieter Rebmann: 0635857000790: Amazon.com: Books

Bought it years ago and enjoyed it. Wonder how accurate it is? I dusted it off 2 years ago when I got back into a 968 and still found it interesting.

The Morgan book is fine and has great photography but has errors in the production data.

I knew you would like it. It has the best 968 data out there, despite being in German. So, tell me about your car? I'll let you know if you have a North American twin. Which interior code do you have?

Thanks Jeff, that would be cool..

Its no problem that the book is in german, as I speak that as well. But when checking my interior code I realized that I was wrong in thinking that I have full leather interior as the code is LT. It was the leather center on the rear seats that fooled me..

Anyway, some info on my car. VIN is: WPOZZZ96ZNS802445. Its registered first time in '94 in Italy, but looks like the car is produced in '92.

Paint code is L37W - midnight blue and interior code LT - black leather.
Its a non-sunroof with LSD, no rear 968 badge, colored in rear spoiler. I also think it has the 10-speaker option, even though the car is now fitted with a Becker Grand Prix HU and not the original stereo system. It has air con and factory alarm system.

Tha car has done 68.000 miles and is in really great condition. Drives beautifully with a really light positive clutch, smooth and slick gearbox, fresh adjustable konis all round and everything works, even the clock and outside temp gauge. Its also the first 944/968 I have seen with no delamination what so ever on the hatch, it looks like new.

I am really pleased with the car and I absolutely love driving it..

Jeff my 968 is vin 800670 and is a 92 car , so I think yours is not a '92 production car.
