Here is a nice M030. Looks very clean and has a couple of interesting features:
Of the 99 M030s produced for North American 22 of them did NOT have 220 LSD. This car is one of them. Many thought 220 was part of the M030 package which was incorrect.
The car has the code VN full leather seats. unlike the 93% of 968s that had the $682 partial leather this car has the $2,256 full leather seats and they look nice.
Almost a carbon copy of the one I bought.
Mine is heavily optioned in comparison. Will be interesting to see what it fetches. Will help me determine what to do next.
I think at the time some thought 220 LSD was part of the M030 package.
Reminds me of when I ordered my ex-Audi S4. The dealer assumed that the sport diff was included in the "driver's assistance package" which it was not for the B8.5 chassis (it was for the B8). I received the car without checking and proceeded to drive it for a couple days until I went into the MMI to adjust the sport differential setting and saw that there wasn't an option for it. A visual check confirmed it-no sport differential.
I was pretty bummed but since I had driven it a bit there wasn't anything the dealer could do but give me a break on a new lease which would have been 4-5000 out of pocket. I kept the car for most of the lease which was fine and it did not make much of a difference in normal street driving. In the end, it was kind of a weird car as it had every option box checked along with a desirable manual transmission, but one glaring omission--the sport differential. You would assume anyone ordering the manual transmission would be the type to get the sport diff which was only $1200, peanuts in the grand scheme of things.
Compared to other Porsche models, that's nothing. Most air cooled have doubled if not tripled in the same time frame.
Hopefully the value rise will start to affect 968's soon.

I am not an expert but simply a person who is in the market for one and I think it is already happening. The nice thing is that a lot of private sellers don't realize it and there are some deals out there to be had. The way I see it, there is a big resurgence in interest for the 944/951/968 and the 968 is clearly the best iteration so demand will continue to rise.
Its funny, even when talking to some casual Porsche aficionados, they are just not familiar with the 968. I was speaking with a friend of mine who has an '07 C4S and has had a number of Porsches (including a RS America) and he was just like "oh, the 944 with the weird headlights" when I said I was looking to buy one.

Make sure you go with your friend on a friendly drive through the twisty's to show him what the car with weird headlights can do. He is in for a big surprise!
Good luck in your search.

That is part of the appeal of the 968, its uniqueness. If you take one to a show you are often the only one and car enthusiast will descend on your car trying to figure out what it is. The unique cars always get all the attention
