Default fuel tank

Anybody know for sure if a late 944 fuel tank will fit in a 968? I bought a 968 track rat that has a 15 gallon fuel cell in the @ss end that needs to have the hatch open to refuel. I don' like that and the balance changed due to the location of the tank. I have an available tank but before i remove everything i would like know if it will physically work. Thanks

Already did. Different numbers but the difference could possibly be the additional hose nipples for fuel evap system or some such, I guess will just try and see what happens. Thanks

As I recall the 968 tank has one to two gallons additional capacity.

Seems like the opposite. Most websites list the 968 as 19.x gallons and the late 944 as 21.x gallons (early 944's were 17.x)

I'm interested in this too as I was hoping on using a 951 tank in my 968...haven't tried to bolt it up yet.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is that the 944 tank is bolted to the shell with two bolts, while the 968 is held by the aluminium cross brace holding the gearbox.

This brace does not fit with the 944 fuel tank, because the tanks do not have the same shape. The alu brace hits the 944 tank because the 944 tank is flatter on its whole width above the brace, and I would imagine this is why the 944 tank has a slightly larger volume.

The steel brace normally holding the gearbox on a 944 would have to be installed along with the 944 tank, but in that case I am not sure how the 944 tank will be attached to the 968 shell because of the 2 attaching points that probably aren't there on the 968 shell.

This is what I observed when installing a 968 gearbox on a 944T and when comparing side by side a 944 fuel tank with a 968 fuel tank.

Okay, I found a tank and all straps, filler neck and parts to put it back in. The problem now is where the previous owner removed the portion of the boot floor to put in the fuel cell apparently has the attachment points for the rear strap bolts. Could someone provide me with a picture from the bottom rear showing how and where they attach? I can fabricate what I need if I know where and what it looks like. PM would be fine, cell pic or digital camera.
Thanks in advance!
