Possible immaculate 968
All,
Just wanted to post this as it popped up in my area. For what the guy is charging this is either a perfect condition 968 or grossly overpriced...

I'd say he is a dreamer. You can purchase ones in nice condition that need some maintenance work for around $10k. I doubt you could get over $15k for a real clean and very well maintained 968 that is very good cosmetically and cosmetically. Maybe you could get $20k for one in fantastic cosmetic and mechanical condition. But, even then I think you'd have to find just the right buyer who was willing to pay the premium.

Looks nice but pretty plain. Even if it is super clean i would say $20K at best.
There is no way that car cost over $60K when new. Only the highest optioned cabs broke the $60K mark back when they were new. Even if you picked everything on the option list it would be difficult to get a coupe near $60K.
Good luck to him.

I saw that too and he is nearby. Did the pot laws change in IL ? Or maybe he probably based his asking price on the Isringhausen car up that is still for sale waiting for that elusive one buyer. Maybe there is hope - I read that when Isringhausen took that 968 in trade along with an RSA America that they were asking $150K but the RSA sold to another Rennlister for only $100K.

Thought for a second this was the same car that was sold in Chicago a year and a half ago for sale with the wheels swapped back to stock, but looked back and saw that one was a 93 with lower miles (18k) and was a tip. It sold for ~$17.5 if I remember correctly.
It's news to me that the 968 took the place of the 928. :-)

A. 968 did not replace the 928. The 928GTS was built up to the day the 968 faded into history.
B. The car has never carved a niche. It's an outlier in the line up, and most recognized it as a rebadged and tin cousin of the 944.
C. It was vastly overpriced in it's day, which is why sales figures were so low(see above as well). You could get a Nissan 300Zx for just over half the price, and keep up on the track and on the highway.
D. Low miles is not a selling point except in the minds of some unfamiliar with the Porsche engine.
E. 236HP.
Other than that, it's a nice car. low $20k is my guess, or high teens will make it move faster. Or, you could buy mine and put the other $30k into a decent small Cessna.

Ditto. I'm very happy with my car. I hope they all go up in value, but even if they don't, mine is a keeper. My son sat behind the steering wheel for the first time a few days ago, and he had this huge grin on his face. He loves it, too, and someday it will be his. I just have to teach him how to drive a manual transmission.
