Default road trip to Florida in my '93?

I can't take much more of this arctic weather here in Chicago!
I'm considering firing up the 968 for a trip down to Florida next month. All I need is a duffle bag, snacks, and a quick clean-up car care kit, of course.
I'm sure I'm asking for trouble going on such a long cruise in a vintage car but it sure sounds like an adventure!

As I've said before, these are very good cars with few inherent problems, but don't go anywhere on old timing belts OR (as one of our local club members just discovered) without a spare DME relay !

You will be fine. I've driven my cab on two Porsche parades, one to savannah GA and this past year to Traverse city MI. 2500 mile round trips each. The 968 was great. Comfortable, A/C worked great, tunes, and 30 mpg. What more could you ask? I appreciate the 356 owners who drive to these events.

I also have a 1970 Dodge Challenger that I drove to the Chrysler's at Carlilse event. Now that was an adventure but we made it.

+2 on driving them anywhere. Just check your accessory belts and make sure your timing belt has plenty of yrs left. Always good to have a dme relay as stated as well as a fix-a-flat.

You will do just fine. I envy you for being able to go to Florida on a whim. Enjoy!

Great news! It sounds like a plan. I ordered a back up DME relay, thanks for the advice. I'm sure there will be stories and pictures along the way!

I am in Titusville. If you get stuck, I can hook you up with my mechanic. No worries.
Let me know if you are swinging by the space coast and we can do a photo shoot of our cars!

Was logging on to add that to my original reply. If yours has any amount of age on it replace it before your trip. I carry a spare and the tools to change it.

I've driven my 968 from KC to Vegas multiple times, to CA for a cruise up the PCH1, to Florida a couple of times, and a number of much shorter multistage cruises. It's what the car was designed for, you'll enjoy it!

+1 on Dme relay and new heater control valve.

Heater control valve...check!
Still waiting for weather to improve enough to plot the trip.

I would just wing it. Once you are on the highway, you should be good. Make sure you get the underbody cleaned once you get there.

It's amazing what salt can do to metal.
