Default What "mod" do you regret the most?

It's an interesting question and I'd like to hear your comments.

This is my 3rd transaxle p car and you would figure by now I would have it figured out. My biggest regret to date, solid motor mounts. Don't get me wrong, it does have it benefits. I love the feel as the revs pick up down low and you get this wonderful feeling of connection to the engine and chassis, especially when driving in anger.

But when you're sitting in traffic and you can't get out of first gear and you experience this sound frequency/vibration you never knew existed in cars. The low buzz that seems to go straight to your temples.

I'm torn.

Anyone

Which one to I regret? The very first one. After I added a LR boost enhancer to my 951, it was all over. Thousands of dollars later and it's just programmed into me now. When I decided to pick up my 968 last week, I was looking online for exhaust options within a few hours.

Solid mounts are utter $h*t.
They are the only parts I ever regret trying, and I have spent tens of thousands as well. Get rid of them. Now.

I've got no regrets with the 968, but mine is totally stock (and STAYING that way!)

With the 951... My biggest regret is spending a few thousand dollars on worthless mods.

Mine is primarily a track car (non-competitive at the moment - only track days), so it's VERY heavily modified. I'm happy with all of the mods, except possibly one - I went with a staggered 18" wheel set-up, with 10" wide in back, and 8.5" in front. Many racers have had good success with this set-up, but for my immediate plans for the car, I kind of regret not going with a square 17 x 9" set-up. I had underestimated how much more expensive 18" tires are than 17", particularly the back ones, and being a staggered set-up, I can't rotate the tires front to back, so I'm faced with the prospect of throwing away expensive tires with significant tread left, unless I want to just replace two at a time, which strikes me as not the best idea. I'm seriously considering selling my current wheels, and getting a set of 17 x 9". One frustration, though, is that Porsche's goofy, oddball 5x130 mm bolt pattern significantly restricts my choice of wheels, and locks me out of some of the lightest wheels on the market. I figure if I'm going to go to the trouble of changing out my wheels, I should take maximum advantage of the potential weight reduction of a 17" wheel, but unless I want to go with some uber-expensive Fikse's or Forgeline custom wheels, it's proving difficult to find something to my liking.

You would... not... or you might... or, not.

Around here, I don't light up the tires often enough to worry about it.

a critical mod if you're going to the track Paul, and only your wallet will regret it if you're not...

I regret not pulling the engine the day I bought the car

and whoring every pristine part for cash.

then dropping a fun truck motor in for the next 150 k miles.

Despite being a full on race car build, my greatest regret in Dubai was removing the air conditioning. In the GT Series I ran in there were all sorts of stripped out exotica running, but the happiest guy was a guy in a C6 Corvette who kept his A/C. He would get out of the car after an hours race looking fresh as a daisy and laugh while we all got dragged off to the medical centre with heat exhaustion.
