Default Under stereo dash insert aka "the cubbyhole"

What are the possible configurations for the insert under the stereo? I would assume 1) cubby hole, 2) blank insert, 3) clock, 4) equalizer etc.

I've seen inserts with gauges of course though I don't suppose it's stock.

I've decided to buy a Porsche Classic Radio but unsure of the configuration below it. Sorry in advance if this has been discussed somewhere as I haven't been able find anything related.

In stock configuration, it has a cubby with a clock located to the right of it. That's the only factory configuration I have seen. I am not sure if there was an option for an eq or not but someone here will certainly chime in.

Thanks I believe you're correct on the configuration. The EQ and full size cubby I've seen on 944's but not ours.

If you decide to go the EQ route, I have a new Blaupunkt in the box!

Here's what the 968 looks like from the factory, well, not the radio....

I recommend the double-DIN approach. In this pic it's still being installed, so it's a bit proud of the console, but it sets back in nice and flush now.

Did you have to modify anything to make the double DIN fit?

Yes, I had to remove the cross-member in the console, but that was pretty much it, and it didn't take very long.

This was one of my favorite pictures from my 97 Audi A8....went from a single DIN radio to a factory navigation system and parts from the "facelift" 2000 and newer A8....a LOT of retrofitting.

I imagine the 968 is something like this.....

The equalizer was a 944 option. I've never seen anything in the 968 other than the cubby and clock.

Thanks. I did consider the double din route and almost pulled the trigger on a Alpine Appradio 3 (pretty forward thinking, I know) but since then decided to stick with the OEM route. I like the Traffic Pro in Paul's car but I believe it's been a few years since they last made them so not supported from a software perspective.

The Classic Radio from Porsche isn't the bees knees or anything and perhaps the usefulness of the display can be argued but I like the simplicity and feel it suits our era cars pretty good.

Anyway, thanks to all for your thoughts!

Haha, thanks and appreciate the offer. I'll be sticking with the Classic Radio.
