Got my car out of hibernation! I've been overseas for the last year and a half, riding this Covid thing out quietly.
Reconnected the negative terminal, pulled the DME/fuel pump relay. Turned the key, saw the red oil light, cranked about 5-6 seconds. Light went off, oil needle moved.
Installed relay, checked tire pressure, and went for a 20 mile highway jaunt. Need to get the car smoged. Oil changed, and I should be good to go...
And go I hope. Planning a 5,000 mile trip in July.
Got to keep the rust gremlins at bay.
I'm a little surprised that there is that much rust. All you hear about is the zinc galvanized dipping process.......
I did mine, like you said very easy, except i broke my door opener while trying open the hood, it cost 2 days of swearing and sweating in fla garage trying fix the door..UGH !!!

I was surprised when I saw it too. Battery acid leakage, no doubt.
Had it done by Queen City Auto Rebuild in Redmond, WA. Porsche certified shop. Was about $300.
They're currently making my 911 whole again, and installing a new tail I bought way back in 2008. (someone amputated years ago) Then the economy crashed and I never got it done.

I know they are expensive (I have two of them for my 944 S2 and 951), but the AntiGravity Lithium Ion batteries will never leak, are super lightweight, have amazing cranking power, and are a perfect drop-in fit. Wait for the 15% discount which they have fairly frequently.
Guess I need to talk to Queen City about repainting either my S2 or the 951. They did a bunch of work on my A4 when I fit a lot of S4 body panels.

Most recent Red car I parted out became a part out because the drains got clogged up which are right there beside the battery tray with leaves and gunk from years and finally a hole rusted through and water leaked to the ECU/Alarm module and caused a wire fire right under the battery tray. Even if you mostly garage keep your car....when you wash it open the hood and check that those drains are open and flowing on each side.
Started taking stuff that I've piled on top of it off and filled the tires with air today. More than I've done with it in over a year and a half.
"It ran when parked" when I drove it into my garage when I moved half way across the country in November of 2019 and it's been sitting in that spot collecting dirt, sand, grime and junk ever since. It's been a chicken roost, a cat bed, a storage shed and a shelving unit since it's been parked but I'm hopeful never a mouse house.
This summer it needs some work done and I need to get it back on the road. The 400 miles I've driven it since I've owned it (prior to moving) has been replaying in my mind every time I drive my 87 NA. As much as I love that 944, it just doesn't do it like the 968 does. We need to do something about that...
