Hey! Lay off purple. It's a lucky color. I had a Lilac 73 911T and, of course, "LORI". See left.

Default Pleasant Day to drive the 968 HMR Turbo

Beautiful morning here in north central rural Florida. Wonderful roads to experience. Wife and I went for a drive. 968 Turbo working perfectly. The sound of the turbo escape gate makes when foot drops off the throttle is glorious.

Now I see why many photos of 968 engines have the wiring harness on them while on engine stands... and removed from car, BECAUSE the connectors that cross over the front of the motor wont fit behind the belt cover on top of the water pump.

Been so long since I took it out I did not remember things like this, get to figure out how to get the pins out of the hall sender harness so I can pass behind belt covers.

After 3 attempts at trying to get the harness to pass under the AOS/Oil spout I finally saw a good pic of someones engine on a stand with the harness going around the AOS

I hope this is paying hourly!

Humpty Dumpty....

All back together. Runs great, good brakes, clutch and tranny crazy smooth. No leaks, yet. Great temp and oil pressure.
Everything works except, 1 driving light and,....

* Carpet in back has crystalized.
* Needs rotors / pads.
* Fuel lines look good, but are on the list.
* Some body side molding clips are broken.
* All weather areas have lost the clear coat.
* Odo gear broke on the first test drive.
*A/C blows coldish, but need to find R12 or convert over.

I like the way it drives, but the 928 is a beast.

It handles nice and is more responsive, but still feels like a toy compared to the 928.

Now I have to decide if I keep it or the 928, or keep both.

Paint would be about 6K for each Looks like the resale would be better on the 968..I could sell it and get a new motor and paint for the 928...

Decisions.

Thanks to all for the guidance along the way.

Nice work saving another one! Love the color. I vote for taking the Cup I's from the 928 and taking another picture Then Im sure to say sell the landshark.

There is a cars and coffee over in Alexandria, VA every couple weeks at the Hollin Hall Shopping Center with 3-5 Porsches each time. One of the organizers has a few American Muscle Cars and a 996. Nice Polar Silver 928 comes out, hope to see your 968 one day soon.

Got the motor running this evening....Whewwww! Lots of sweating and after some intial shakes and snorkels and fits and sputs the car I bought for my wife blown up is running again!

Had my box fans and battery blower moving some air. Had a leaky fuel injector and had to take that all back apart and reseat things and now seems good.

Going to flush and change the tiptronic trans fluid. Any thoughts on good trans fluid to use in the tip?? I know it also has some gear fluid and will change that too. Hope to be able to drain the converter but never even looked at one closely yet.

Did a 3rd brake light LED conversion tonight. It is so bright, you can almost not look directly at the light when lit....

Details:

I started with a piece of aluminum 1/2" or 3/4" (I'll confirm tomorrow) bar stock from Home Depot/Lowes and cut it the length of the red plastic lens (inside dimension). Ordered 2 of these:

https://www.radiantz.com/Ampd-Flex-s...m?1=1&CartID=0 10.75" length.

I bought red LEDs with clear tube. Had to heat the light tubes to get them to lay flat.
Picked up a used 3rd brake light assembly on eBay as a donor for the wiring. Cut the donor wires at the light and wired directly to the 2 LED strips with pinch then heat connectors. I stacked the 2 LED strips (they have 3M double sided tape on the back) on the bar stock and zip tied the ends. It's direct wiring, plug and play. Used heat shrink tubing at the connections. Secured the bar stock with lights to the red plastic housing with silicone.

Drove it, and got smogged on my way to work. Man these cars are sweet to drive. Pedal positions are perfect for me, shifts nice (maybe a touch long stock) clutch is a tad high, no big deal.
If I needed a PS pump I'd be tempted to find an old 928 pump with less boost. These are all insignificant, if I cared I'd have done something by now.

Thought you were going to have some molds made at one time from your 993 modded fenders.

Haha....Thanks! I usually limit my modifications to easily reversible things. I do LOVE the look tho.
