Top 3 968 strengths and weak points?
What would you say are the stock 968s 3 greatest strengths? Especially when compared to the 944 S2 it replaced? How about it's weak points?
What are it's three biggest mechanical issues?
#1 would have to be the random pinion bearing issue (which I have been told is completely random and based on which machine put your 6 speed together)?
#2 is part of the tiptronic tranny that always goes?
#3?
Thanks for your input.

Hi,
From my understanding, the pinion bearing failure was due to the factory load spec being incorrect. If done by a knowledgeable shop and set at a different (i.e. correct) load setting, this issue has been greatly reduced, if not entirely corrected. However, I have a tip, so I have no factual experience about that.
This brings me to point number 2, which is the damper plate issue on the tiptronic. I believe this is what you are describing. I had my tiptronic modified with a clutch plate from a S2. It also needs the shaft from the S2 for this mod. I no longer have to worry about replacing the damper plate, which I have done twice. The clutch plate mod has been installed on my car for over 3.5 years and there have been no issues at all.
Cheers

Sorry but there is no variocam @ 4500.
That's the intake manifold doing it's job.
VC is active till 1500RPM then unactive till 5200RPM or so.
I forget the actual rpm, I'm sure the correct number will come in.

Strength : 968 Clutch Job is 'cheaper' than the S2.
Strength : There are 'hunderds' of new supercharges to choose from to get us to the moon and back.
Weakness : The front of a 968 does not look as agressive as an S2 with a splitter.
